Samsung Pay Mini launching in Q1, company confirms

Samsung has confirmed that the Pay Mini service - a stripped down version of the company's mobile payments service Samsung Pay - will be officially launched within the ongoing quarter. South Korea will be the first market where the service will be available.

As expected, the service will only be available to users of Android-powered non-Galaxy phones at launch. However, it will only be compatible with those devices that run Android 5.0 Lollipop (or up) and sport at least a HD (1280x720) display.

While the exact launch date is yet to be revealed, the company confirmed that a pre-launch trial will kick off February 6 onwards. During this period, Koreans will be able to download a demo version of the app.

In case you aren't aware, the main difference between Samsung Pay and Pay Mini is that the latter is only capable of handling online payments, meaning it can't be used to make in-store payments. Pay Mini users will also be able to access services such as membership, lifestyle, and transportation.
