Samsung reports Q4 2010 results, confirms dual-core Galaxy S2

28 January, 2011

Samsung just published its financial report for the last quarter of 2010 and the full fiscal year and things are looking pretty good for the second largest cell-phone manufacturer. The telecom division has generated some $10.9 billion of revenue and $1.3 billion of profit in the last three month alone.

Those numbers represent respectively 19% and 38% increase over the year-ago quarter.

For the full 2010 the company reported a total of $37 billion of revenue and $3.9 billion of operating profit.

Driven by strong holiday quarter demand for the company's flagship smartphones, Samsung's mobile device sales reached 80.7 million units for the quarter, up 17% over Q4 2009. This brought total sales for 2010 to 280 million units (a 23% percent growth). Samsung also did well in developing markets where their entry-level smartphones and touch-driven devices registered strong sales growth.

Despite the fact that Q1 sales are traditionally lower than Q4, Samsung expects to achieve small growth over the coming three months. The company has confirmed that the Galaxy S successor will pack a dual-core CPU and Super AMOLED Plus display. With its help Samsung hopes to sell over 60 million smartphones this year.
