Samsung's newest Tizen phone Z2 launched in South Africa

Himanshu, 09 September, 2016

As expected, the newest Tizen-powered smartphone - the Samsung Z2 - has been launched in South Africa, making it the first Tizen phone to be available in the African region.

"We are delighted to be able to bring Samsung’s much-awaited Z2 handset to the South African market; providing an affordable handset that has a range of fantastic attributes, not the least of which is its 4G capability," said Craige Fleischer, Director of Integrated Mobility at Samsung Electronics South Africa.

"This alone puts it in the company of some of the best smartphones available today."

As for price, the handset carries a tag of ZAR 1,099, which translates into around $78 at current exchange rates. Alternatively, Vodacom is also offering it with plans starting from R79 (around $6) per month.

For those who aren't in the know, the device was made official in India last month, and it went on sale in the country a week after that. Some of Z2's key specs include Spreadtrum chipset with quad-core processor, 3.97-inch display, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory, 5MP/VGA camera setup, and 1,500mAh battery.
