Slack's voice calling feature begins rolling out publicly

Workplace collaboration software company Slack has announced that the voice calling feature for its team communication service - which has been in beta testing for months now - has started rolling out publicly.

On Slack's Windows and Mac desktop apps, the feature can be accessed by clicking the new phone icon in the upper right of the channel header.

On the other hand, in the service's mobile apps, the feature can be accessed by tapping "Start a call" option in the app’s channel or DM drop-down menu.

For group calls - available only to paid teams - whenever a call is initiated, you get a message inviting you to join the call, saving you from "the fuss of digging through calendar invites for call numbers and dial-in codes and all the rest," the company says.

Voice calling in Slack also includes an 'emoji response' feature that lets you select and display an emoji over your avatar, allowing you to express yourself without interrupting the speaker.
