Sony Ericsson G502 and Z780 unveiled

23 Apr, 2008

It is finally over. After quite a number of photos leaked all around the place for the past few days, Sony Ericsson G502 and Sony Ericsson Z780 were officially announced today. According to the press release they are meant to be web-oriented handsets and the specs are there just to back that up.

Sony Ericsson G502 is an HSDPA-enabled handset that comes in the bar form factor. It sports a 2-inch 262K color display with QVGA resolution and up to 32MB of internal memory. The memory can also be expanded through the Memory Stick Micro card slot. Among the other Sony Ericsson G502 specifications are FM radio, Bluetooth with A2DP profile support and a 2 megapixel camera (sorry, no auto focus).

Sony Ericsson G520 will come in the rather modest dimension of 109 x 46 x 13.5 mm and weighs only 89.5 grams. It will be available in two color versions: Champagne Black and Brilliant Hazel from Q2 2008. There is no information regarding its pricing.

Sony Ericsson Z780 is a quad-band GSM handset with tri-band UMTS support, which seems just enough for worldwide roaming. It also flaunts a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support.

The Z780 is very similar to the Sony Ericsson Z770, which was announced in February. The supported frequency bands and the GPS are the few differences between them.

Sony Ericsson Z780 will also sport HSDPA support and a 2.2-inch 262K color display with QVGA resolution. The external monochrome display has a resolution of 36 x 128 pixels.

The clamshell will also feature a 2 megapixel snapper, FM radio and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) support.

Sony Ericsson Z780 will hit the shelves in two different color versions: Grand Onyx and Amethyst Silver in Q2 2008. Again there is no information about its price.

Stop being ignorant, and complain about the obvious... The reason why the features are downgraded from the G700/900, its because this is G502! The stats are obviously going to be lower grade in comparison. DUH

What is going on in their minds? I mean, I would really like to buy a beautiful Sony Ericsson clamshell phone. But isn't there a possibility to include the camera in a more sophisticated way? Even a more sophisticated camera? Well...
