Can someone please explain to me why the shutter for the camera is situated under the clear cover on the back of the phone? i just don't understand it. it looks great as it's automatic and all, but with the clearglass over the cover, surely you'd need to clean this before taking a photo? and there's the possibility of scratches.... was thinking of getting this phone and have always loved se, but i don't understand this small issue.

Right, i got my phone already.
So far, I don't have any problems with it. Just a little bit laggy.

I especially like the blue lights which lit up the keypad, making the phone really beautiful.
Camera is up to my expectation.
I haven't tested the music quality yet, will do it tomorrow as it's charging now.

Overall ,I'm really happy with this phone.(:

i have this phone, but the only thing that annoys me is that the screen looks dull. compared to my K800 and N95 the screen is not bright at all..but i guess you can get used to that..the touchscreen takes some time getting use to, and camera takes darker pictures than my N95 and taking videos is reallly dark..unless your outside..overall nothing that bad about the K850 but i would still prefer using my N95 over this.

Btw, who the @!#! needs GPS? I just installed google maps (it's FREE) and if that doesn't cover your navigation needs then you're in serious need of help.

Okay, just got me one of these babies!
The Media Center is really great when it comes to features however the software is kind of slow when browsing the files simply because it has to load preview thumbs.
Music playback is almost as good as on SE's music dedicated Walkman phones with playlists, trackID, Mega Bass etc. But for the perfectionist there is a difference in sound quality.
The headset you get with the phone is complete trash. If you buy this phone you should buy a Walkman headset at the same time because you will NOT be happy with the ones included.
The camera is great but still can't compete with dedicated digi-cams, probably because of the lousy optics. If you view the whole pics on a PC they look great but when you zoom in they'll start to look pretty grainy.
Video recording is really good actually. It's not the best I've seen but it's better than any other SE phone. The advantage of the low quality is that the video files doesn't take much space on your memory card at all, so you'll be able to record videos despite being low on memory.
Of course, you can always buy a 4gb Memory Stick Micro to make sure that you have enough room for both videos and music.
The design is great although it gets covered in fingerprints pretty fast. Keypad buttons are great and the d-pad actually works pretty good, unless you're playing any games with it. The touch-sensitive soft buttons are great. They make navigating feel fun and easy despite the occasional undeliberate press.
The motion sensor is great when viewing photos or videos. It's also great when playing Marble madness as you can tilt the whole level and roll the marble in any direction. The precision is really surprising as the sensor notices every single move you make. You'll look dumb playing it in the subway but at least it's fun.
The phone features are great so making calls and sending messages have never been as easy.
Other than that it has all the usuall SE phone features so you know what you're getting.
In the end a great device with excellent camera and phone features. What could make you not want this phone is the lack of GPS and other ultra high-tech features, the screen isn't as good as Nokia's, slow media center software, d-pad not made for gaming, fingerprints, and really lousy headset.

                  @trinidadian

finally it all boils down to ur preferences...

k850i is decent for music,gr8 camera..dunno why people r finding it bad..it takes gr8 pictures wid the xenon flash as well..just got to take the pict in d right way...gr8 battery but cant install much applications...messaging using the new kind of buttons is difficult initially...

n95 is gr8 for day light pics whereas it taked horrible pictures in dim light or night...then there r features which people might use or may not like gps, maps etc...noe its battery life is the biggest drawback when u use all features..music player is decent...but the best thing is dat u can load lots of applications which sometimes r of gr8 use...

n95-8gb is better than n95...battery is not as gud as k850i though but better than n95 classic..lots of memory for songs n videos n pics... processor speed has increased caz of more ram onboard...
                  so final decision is urs...

for me k850i is a good buy
for pics n style..people all who have seen it have told me that it looks really classy n takes gr8 pictures....

i hope i might have given good information
                  cheers

Is it true that the k850i's successor is coming in 2008?

Oh, and i'm probably getting this phone today.
Hopefully there isn't any problems with mine...

                      ibnm (Huo)-
I'm not asking you to leave, and I'm not for GPS, because people who depend on them, casually depend on them 24/7. I'd like to depend on maps, and visualizing the area before I get there, and knowing how to get there without having to rely on turn by turn directions every time, because indeed, people do that, every single time.
And yes, you're true that I'm a Motorola fan, but I'm not crazy about Sony Ericsson, I'm just really interested by the K850. Why, I'm still going to go and get the RAZR2 V9 Luxury Edition.

Apart from that, I've just revisited the K850, and when using it, I remembered the complains about having the keys being too close to each other. Then stop being lazy and lift up your fingers to get to the buttons, that or OBVIOUSLY don't put the inside flat of your finger OR press your whole finger on the touchsensitive area, it's too wide, no matter how thin you think you are.
As well, I'll give you kudos if 1/10 times you do miss hit a button within or when pressing a button upon the d-pad or the numbers 2 and 5 keys, but anymore just means you'll have to go slower, because it's not as friendly for you.
To people complaining about having to hold the camera another way, just live with it. It also helps to keep fingermarks off the back of your phone.

Got the K850 yesterday. Its true that there's something in the firmware that the camera doesn't fire the flash when there's moderate indoor lighting. This results in a black picture. I hope this will be fixed in a firmware upgrade soon. There is a workaround, if you set the flash to come on manually, everything is fine. Also, if you set the scene style to anything other than "auto" the flash fires fine. Not a show stopper for me.

This phone's great in alot of ways but the firmware definitly needs to be upgraded!!!! I own one and I have a few issues with this phone. 1) When I use a video for a ringtone sometimes the video does not show.
                            2) The video sometimes stall or speed up when it rotates from normal view to landscape view.
                            3) When in the Picture Media view and you view a "gif" type pictures or animated pictures in full screen it doesn't move in an animated fashion, they just stand still as if it's a "jpeg" picture.
SE, I'm pleading with u, please upgrade the firmware on this phone A.S.A.P.!!!!!!!!

                                        to mikhail:

oh com'on mikhail! dont exaggerate, i have my k800i for more than a year now, nokia n95 is far better than k800i.dont give the spectators a wrong impression.
i hope you people are going to give a fair comment about any nokia phones even though we're SE fans mostly here, coz it's not really helping the SE fans/people who are curious to decide which phone to buy. just becoz we're SE fans that doesnt mean SE is the best phone around. we're just human, and we have different tastes.

                                        this phone is awesome:
                                        Built 85%
                                        Design 90%
keypad 60% as usual for SE

                                        perofrmance 85%

like i said, we have different taste, and opinion
