            Hi all,

I have had a P1i for over a year, and have really liked it. The best thing about this was the keyboard - absolutely loved it. I could guarantee that I could type twice as fast as anyone using a standard ABC-DEF kinda phone keypad (even with T9 on), or 4 times faster than anyone using a full touchscreen phone like Samsung Tocco or even iPhone.

But unfortunately, my phone started missing calls if I was on the internet using GPRS/3G. Sometimes even if I closed the browser and the online connection, I still wont get any calls - they'd all get routed to my voicemail. Tried to re-flash the O2-UK firmware, that didn't work. Then removed the UK region CDA and put the WorldGeneric1, and then the latest firmware for that. Still no luck. I couldn't understand what the problem was.

So I was out looking for a new phone. Read the reviews on the Samsung Omnia - the specs seemed quite impressive. Also found HTC Touch Diamond with similar specs but smaller/lighter and with a better touch interface. But I thought I'll try these phones before I buy one of them. The Diamond wasn't available at any local store, so couldn't try it, but checked out the Omnia. All's good, but the only downside is that the virtual keyboard on the touchscreen is not all that good (IMO). It may be fine for some people who don’t use their mobile much for txt'ing, emailing or chatting. I do all of them, so my primary requirement was a good keyboard.

Then saw the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 in the store. It looked a lot more compact than what I had imagined. All these phones with full qwerty keyboards used to be a lot chunkier before, but not this one. This is in fact more compact than the P1i, with the same 17mm thickness (a little heavier though). Didn't try it in the store, but read up on the specs and reviews and all seemed good. So got that one.

So after about a week of use… I can say that I am very happy with my new gadget. Yes, it's running Windows Mobile, but no it's not slow at all… Thanks to it's 528MHz processor and decent amount of RAM. Yes, I'd have really liked to see a Xenon flash on it, but never mind - it's still a good camera when you don’t have any other camera on you. Yes, you wont shoot pictures to enter photo competitions, but for recording memories of those important moments it's just fine.

Other great things about the SEX1 :-) is that… (yeah)… it is damn SEXY looking - the black version looks nice, but I prefered the silver/champagne coloured one (looks more suave IMO). GPS gets a sat-lock in no time and works great with TomTom 6. Panels are a good idea. Mini-USB connector to charge and sync (So you cud use your spare cable at work) 3.5mm audio jack, so you could use your favourite headphones to listen to music (radio or mp3). Keyboard, as I said, is a full qwerty one, reasonably fast to use - and I'm sure I'll be much better with it in a few months time. Threaded SMS is another nice feature - So you see all the txts exchanged with someone on the same page (as if you're chatting with him/her). No searching around to see what they said in their last message a month ago.

Anyway, the reason I'm talking about the X1 in this forum (where I have posted reviews/questions/answers for P1i before) is that if anyone is looking for a phone to upgrade to, from their beloved P1i, you should take a look at the X1. It's expensive compared to some other smartphones, but defintely worth a look. (Or if you are a Nokia fan and/or can wait a few months, check out the N97. I specs look promising on that one too.)

            Cheers guys!
            Ray

                                  Hi,

Just want to know how to adjust the battery settings apart from clicking on the icon at the top right-hand corner on the P1i? At the moment just making/receiving calls as well as text messages and the battery doesnt last more than 3-4 days(this is a brand new phone).

                                      1. As a matter of fact, p1i firmware has about 4 different versions with different settings for regions (like languages for asia, arabia, europe etc) It maybe possible u have the wrong firmware

                                      2. Flash-player mod is available for p1i didn't u know that? Flash works perfectly on p1. Just google for it (U will have to hack ur phone first!, google that too).
