Sony Ericsson Yari unveiled, promises loads of fun
The first new phone announcement at the Sony Ericsson event in London tonight is already a fact. The Sony Ericsson Yari is quite interestingly equipped slider with a specs sheet that suggests a younger audience.
A conservatively styled slider, Sony Ericsson Yari focuses on gaming, promising a whole new user experience. It offers gesture-based gaming somewhere along the lines of the Wii video game console plus dedicated gaming keys for the other titles.
The gesture-based gaming has so far been reserved only for the Sony Ericsson phones in Japan (and gadgets such as the EyeToy camera on the Sony PlayStation 2) and we are pretty glad that now the rest of the world is getting some "twist-tilt-turn-smash" love.
The Sony Ericsson Yari has a 2.4" 262K color QVGA display and a decently sounding 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Face detection and Smile shot. It also has a built-in GPS receiver and an accelerometer that allows automatic screen rotation.
Sony Ericsson Yari network connectivity is duly covered with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support and dual band UMTS (with HSDPA).
The other interesting features of the Sony Ericsson Yari include Bluetooth, FM Radio with RDS and USB support. It will also have a microSD card slot for expanding the 60 MB of built-in memory.
Sony Ericsson Yari is set to launch in September in Achromatic Black and Cranberry White color versions. Unfortunately there is no information about its pricing just yet.
