Businesses very rarely make a product more expensive than they need to to sell. If they do, it's usually the higher end models that are victim to this(think the xperia pro series), but most of the time, high price just means well... it cost that much to deliver to you.
Think of this. Realme is based out of China. They have China manufacturing right next to them, China cheap labour right next to them, and to top it all off they're a large company(relative to Sony's mobile division) selling far more phones which means they don't need to make as much profit on each phone to make back the R&D, continued support, and warranty service costs. All of that is baked into the price of the phone, and the fewer units they sell, the more expensive the phone has to be to pay for that. It should be a logical conclusion from knowing that Sony doesn't sell a huge amount of phones to realizing they would cost more, but for some reason this goes over many people's heads, likely because they enjoy getting mad on the internet and aren't actually thinking.
All of that being said, price comparing a Sony phone to a Realme phone isn't ever going to impress when it comes to value, because while we think of value in an absolute way that is unaffected by the development conditions and sales numbers of the product, price for products that therefore determine the value, are determined by development costs and units sold.
Would I buy this phone? No, probably not, I like Sony but if I only had that amount of money to spend on a phone, I would get something different, but only because the budget segment has other brands with card slots and headphone jacks.

I don't understand why Sony sells 127.68-megapixel sensors to companies... while its phones only have 50-megapixel sensors.

I have a Realme 14 Pro Plus, it costs less, is more powerful and has more features. Also doesn't have the ugly stock Android.
I don't understand why Sony phones are so overpriced, overall, they look good, but nothing else stands out about them. They are like Apple and Samsung - grossly overpriced for zero reason.

Unfortunately, I think Sony did most of it wrong, really wrong. We all know their design and you either hate it or love it. However Sony using the cheapest camera setup ever in a "midranger" is a shame. This chipset class was mid range couple of years ago and half the price. Ingress protection of IP65... Charging speed of old Nokia phone... All plastic for that price... I guess Sony are trying to invent new smartphone class - under midranger.
It gets even worse when you are aware of the technology they have (Xperia 1 phones and all the camera sensors they produce). We all know that their software support is poor and if they don't get it right in the beginning it is not getting better. And again all that when they discontinued the Xperia V and have all the space to position this phone as real midranger... Shame.

Others aee ugly, i see charavter and uniqueness. I like boxy- utilitarian looks. And the solid colors and with those 2 caneras round things are simplistic but eye catching! Especially on that greenish solid color and even the white.
Sony, like Nothing, is not for everyone.
