Sony Xperia A2 SO-04F is official on Japanese NTT DoCoMo

14 May, 2014

Sony announced the Xperia A2 SO-04F for the Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. The phone made a trip to the FCC recently carrying the codename "Altair".

Judging by its model name, the Sony SO-04F is expected to be Japanese version of the Xperia Z2 Compact. Its design is similar to the Z1 Compact with very subtle differences. The back is all matte, which should prevent fingerprints from sticking around. The edges of the phone now sport a cleaner look than those on the Z1 Compact.

The Xperia A1 features the same 4.3" 720p display of the Z1 Compact in addition to the 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 chipset. At the back, there's a 20.7MP Exmor R camera with a back-illuminated CMOS sensor and LED flash. The battery remains the same 2,300mAh as the Z1 Compact.

The phone measures 128 x 65 x 9.7mm, a 0.2mm difference in thickness compared to the Z1 Compact, but other than that, everything else seems to be virtually unchanged.

Check out a promo video of the phone below. There, you can see the new orange and dark pink hues of the phone, too.

We're yet to see if the international version of the Z2 Compact is going to sport any major differences over the Xperia A2. It's possible that Sony has decided to slightly alter the looks of its small flagship than make major changes to the hardware.

Thanks for the tip, Ben Ling!

Aw Again no Red colour version. Terrible color fashion in gsm land already for 2 years , nokia started it with the lumia's. And Sony followed. Really painfull synthetic colours. Where are full red phones? Deep blue? Natural light green? etc.
