Sony Xperia Z1S photographed in the wild

13 November, 2013

The Sony Xperia Z1S just refuses to stay out of trouble and has leaked yet again. This time we got live photos and some early impressions of the device.

The Xperia Z1S was photographed next to a ruler, which seems to confirm the rumored measurements of 127 x 64.9mm. The device also reports a model number D5503, which matches the one found in the EXIF info from the leaked photo yesterday.

Other than that, the Sony Xperia Z1S in the photo differs slightly from the leaked press image, specifically in the front-facing camera and the 3.5mm audio jack.

The tipster that took the photo reported that almost everything worked smoothly except for the occasional hiccup in the launcher (but this is early pre-release software). The design was praised, though the volume rocker and the flap that covers the microUSB port (that's for the IP58 water-resistant specification) were criticized.

The side of the phone has two pogo pins (visible in the fourth photo above) for charging via a dock, similar to those on the Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra.

The Sony Xperia Z1S runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Sony's custom skin on top, powered by a Snapdragon 800 chipset and a 2,300mAh battery. The phone has a 4.3" 720p screen and the 20.7MP camera from the big Xperia Z1.

The Xperia Z1S announcement date is not clear – one rumor pointed to yesterday, a new one from today points to November 26. There's nothing official from Sony yet though.

Clearly you haven't seen an OLED screen in action. I do concede that being incredible expensive to make and having some durability concerns are probably why we never saw such a screen in a smartphone.
