Just tried my old SPG512 from like 2014..I do recall why I was so glad for this item..was so thin and stylish back in the day and Sony's take on Android, was a skin that really resonates with me.
a shame Sony stopped making tablets as they made hands down the best tablet back in those days... I also tried the top dog from Samsung, but the Sony was miles ahead in my view.. really a good-looking and well-built tablet, with all the bells. like Aptx support, NFC, magnetic charging, and if you had a bathtube it would be stellar as 1.5m waterproof...
It was sonyTablet line that really made it clear for me, how much I enjoy.. very thinn and light tablets.the Z2 was like 6mm.. though my current S5e is like 5.5mm. i check to see if this old snapdragon 801 28nm could handle UHD encoding, but nope its limited to 1080p60 in powerdirector... the s5e are able to UHD encode, even with its midrange SoC and also got way betteer speakers-- the S5e actually have better speakers my my Ipad pro 12.9 2020..
the Wifi is also solid on the Z2 and managing 200Mbps up and rooms apart... come again Sony.. you left me with a very good impression after having that Z2 32GB for many years.

rhey, 01 Apr 2020Its April 1 2020 had this with me, my experience with this ... moreI am also a very happy user of Sony's Z2 tablet. Brifley, I considered buying Samsung S5e but no radio and headphone jack stoped me. This tablet does everything well, travels with me extensively so there is no point to upgrading to any android tablet. However, with all improvements/changes to iOS I will now consider going back to iPad which, in my opinion is technically better.

I am thinking of getting this tablet in 2018. I am looking at two tablets actually, this or the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite.
The advantage of the MediaPad M3 Lite is it's runnong Nougat, octa-core and has four speakers and fingerprint scanner. No XDA support as of yet.

The Z2's advantage is Snapdragon 801 (vs SD 435) water resistance and XDA support, I have seen Oreo Roms.

A second hand Z2 Tablet is much cheaper compared to the MediaPad M3 Lite, But I worry of the battery life since it has been 5 years since this was released and the MediaPad was released in 2017.

Hmmm which should I go for?

Own WiFi only model, screen is good and performance is nice. However WiFi is picky on it, it won't connect to my nexus in 5ghz mode only 2.4. Android 6 is not available for WiFi only model either, very frustrating, Sony updated their companion software and no update seems it was beta registered users only, not acceptable.

It amazes me how Sony is able to create great android hardware. Hats off to their software development team, as the harmony and compatibility between the hardware and UI is amazing; which something Samsung and others cannot do. Battery life is crazy; plus it really charges fast if you use the standard adapter, not USB cable (it take about X2 times longer if you charge using PC/laptop). 3GB of memory and 32GB of disk is also incredible. Wifi and GPS work flawless. Screen is really top of the line and tablet is very thin and lightweight (about 450 grams). I have the SGP512 version now but I will upgrade to 3G version (SGP521) as soon as possible. Totally recommended. This tablet is the ultimate answer to iPad products, I am not exaggerating. Try one if you can, you will probably wanna buy it; much more powerful & faster than Samsung and Apple tablets.

Got this a couple a days ago, and for needs its basically overkill, since already got a 7inch 3g HD tablet and a 4 inch mobile, and a stationary computer (Mac pro)at home..

But the Z2 was offered to a great Price on Black Friday in a big national Danish Electronic-chain (Elgiganten) and useally the prizes in Denmark are some of the highest in the World, because of enormous taxes/moms..

The price on the Z2 tablet 32gb ver. went for a few hours Down from (there otherwise pretty competive) Price of 630$ to 330$. and when you have in mind, that there also rules a cashback in Sony Denmark/Scandinavia on there xperia Z serie, where you would get 400DKK (67$) cashback when you delivered purchase-proof..

So at 263$ for the 32gb Wifi version..its one hell of a tablet, and with the comming Android 5 Lollipop update and PS4 remote play in mind, its definately looks like it has some future packed in it..

Im pretty familiar with the alternatives, like Galaxy tab pro, Ipad air.. but i gotta give it up for Z2 that solid felling of high-end-product just stands out, with the amazing 6.4mm for a +10inch tablet.. and the huge bezels with only 426g makes it a joy to use and Work with, and hold with one hand..

The new IP58 rating/certified, looks promissing, but I will wait to check that feature out and put full confident into these completely under-Water tasks..

all in all, it looks like one hell of tablet for relative Little Money, and partically the front where you can't sense the screen, before it turns on, - goes in harmony with the the hole edgy design..

Best looking Fellow on the android-tablet-scene in my view, - and the 3GB Ram, comes to good use with the evolving & not least powerdraining Android-materiel.

Las update was supposed to make it charge faster but I can't say if this is true but it does seem to me the battery lasts longer.
And you should consider the quality of sony batteries, my Sony Ericsson Arc has the battery exactly as new, even after 3 years of abuse, my W980is as it was back in 2009 when I bought it and same for my 2008's k810i and even my 2004 t610i is still running strong, although not as it was when battery was new.

Ahahaha, for a 10.1 Inches Tablet... moreI was sceptical about the battery life as my phone (xperia z1) has amazing battery life and has a 3000 mAh battery. I looked at the stated battery life and sawn that it was also 'amazing'. Anyway, I ended up getting the z2 tablet and it's just insane! And the battery life is so good! You can get like 9hours of netflix on it easily! It easily gets me through the day and I use it a lot! I watched a 2 hour film and it lost about 15%? With Bluetooth on as well! I don't know how Sony did it but they have and it just shows in the performance. In my opinion, this is the best tablet out there at the moment by far...
