Hello,

Sony Xperia Z can also use 64GB flash memory, according to:

http://www.sonymobile.co.jp/product/docomo/so-02e/function/innovation.html

Personally, I do not believe splash-proof capability (so called water-resistant) to be effective in long term. Because like many other Sony products (as well as Apple's old headphone series) the plastic parts nearly -melts- at high humidity places. Like Antalya/Turkey, in summer the temperature+humidity makes tiny plastic parts loosen itself. In 2~3 years they mostly become like a gum.

My Hi-MD Sony Mini Disc Walkman's white USB cover can be thrown into mouth, and maybe it can be blown like a gum-baloon after a few chewings. Apple's mostly white old hedphones series, are much much worser than that. They can even be melt in the tea...

I am thinking to buy ZL but Samsung Galaxy S4 is on the way. For me, there are/will be, only a few good telephones in the market for buying. Those are Sony Xperia Z/ZL and probably Samsung Galaxy S4 because of it's Amoled display (if true!) again.

Bye...

Being just 13, you covered nicely about the difference between the Z and the ZL. I would also prefer a ZL, which is having and IR remote!, the size is smaller that the Z and yes the price will be lesser that Z. Only missing item seems to me is USB OTG, hope that can be added in future.

It's better to choose Xperia ZL at your view... For details, please read my previous post. (most likely below)

Note: Very long passages below, very detailed 'speech' of the differences between the two phones. If you are only interested in finding out which phone is for yours, please skip to the 'conclusion' at the end.

There's little difference, but the small differences can make your experience a lot different.

***Xperia ZL has a camera button, which is great for a person interested in taking photos instantly and sharply. (I have discovered when people tap on their SCREENS to take photos, it becomes blurred because you pushed the entire phone forward. But with a camera button, it's more stable.*** The Xperia ZL also has a plastic back, which is a lot less attractive than pure glass, but avoids fingerprints from accumulating and eliminates the risk of the glass breaking when you drop the device. The Xperia ZL has a larger camera 'hole' which might contribute to a better photo and probably more dedicated machinery inside. The camera is in the top middle of the phone, which avoids your fingers from covering the camera easily. It also has a 'open' speaker and microphone which is better for sound quality, since the waterproof 'layer' for them, removing the potentially 'muffled' sound. But for some strange reason, the front-facing camera in the ZL seems to be at the bottom right corner of the cell phone :o why?? Which is not very convenient if you are trying to take a picture of yourself with your right hand holding the phone. But as for Z, the front facing camera is in the TOP LEFT part of the phone, a lot better. The other pro of the ZL is it doesn't come with water-proof flaps, more convenient for us to use. (for details please see the next paragraph, in '{'. ZL comes with a 64 GB microSD storage capacity, which is better than the Z's 32GB allowance, but anyway, there aren't really many 64GB microSDs out there...

        Xperia Z comes with a water-proof and dust (or sand) proof function, which is great for people who love pools and beaches. That way, you can avoid loosing a fortune just by dropping it in the water or in the sand. The glass back is also very beautiful and stylish, with a premium feeling of the phone, unlike the S III having a cheap plastic cover, ruining the flagship-feel. You can't exactly call the ZL's back 'plastic', but it certainly looks like it. The thing is, the Z doesn't come with a camera shudder, which may prove troublesome, as I have mentioned in the ZL paragraph above. (see ***)The Z also has call quality issues. After all, 'phone' made for CALLING not for BROWSING. As I have again mentioned above, the ZL is likely to have a better call quality since it doesn't have to make water-proof microphones and speakers, enhancing the quality of the call. {The con of the Xperia Z is the flaps. They are quite hard to close tightly, and mission impossible if you are trying to open the tightly closed flap. Not good for people who 'bought' the waterproof function as a PRECAUTION in case they drop their phone in the sand or in the water. The flaps can prove inconvenient for daily use. The 'waterproof' function doesn't really lets you listen to music (The 3.5mm jack is inside the flap), a major drawback in current phone technology. I've always dreamed of listening to music in waterproof earphones (Those are invented now, but mainly for sports, as sweat can damage ordinary earphones, and I've accidentally washed one of them in a washing machine lol) in shower or bathing.}

I'm just 13 years old, but I'm pretty demanding for a phone ;). My current Xperia neo V lags constantly and RAM is almost used up. (highest record is 144 MB left and lowest is 10 MB left) I just use the phone for facebooking and whatsapp, music and internet browsing, no heavy games (I don't play games on phones) And only 300 MB internal memory! Apps don't completely move onto SD cards, some don't even let you do so, like facebook. Already took me 68 MB of space... "

p.s. I've never used both phones before, but according to my experience in helping my friends pick phones [yep, kinda phone expert], I've come up with the below conclusions:

Anyway, concluding the above pros and cons, I will choose the Xperia ZL. The phones are 100% the same in hardware related to the phone's running and storage, except the up to 64 GB microSD in ZL and only 32 GB in Z.

People who love beaches and pools but also like browsing your phone while you swim or sunbathe, or like the premium feeling of glass behind the phone but you don't mind fingerprints, it's the Xperia Z for you.

People who like a camera shudder (like me) and better sound quality, but really doesn't care about the premium feeling and look of the Z (For me, the Xperia ZL is already a very proud and known name). If you prefer convenience rather than rugged, ZL is for you.

ZL is likely to be cheaper than Z, for maybe $500 HKD (about $64.5 USD) or even more.

Hope you guys have good fun choosing between the two very similar flagships!

Another difference is that the Z has a all glass back, where the ZL has a plastic back cover. So you could say that the Z is the more premium version.

Two things I don't get though, ZL is smaller in size but has a marginally larger battery (2370 vs 2300 mAh). Second, ZL can take microSD card up to 64GB but the Z goes only till 32GB =/

Congratulations to the designers of this phone, it's amazing. So far I have not seen any 5" phone which is more compact than S3,Lumia920, Padfone2, One X, etc...,these have less than 5" screen size. I am hoping Sony will release the ZL here in Singapore. I won't hesitate to buy and show it to my friends how compact it is, and yet it has a dedicated camera button. Just one thing, maybe for the future ZL+ or ZL2, put a huge 3000 mAh removable battery, 11 mm thickness is acceptable.
