Sygic AURA SatNav app has 3D maps, supports many platforms

05 March, 2010

The SatNav business has been turned on its head a couple times in the last year, but none of the competitors are giving up. A new challenger, the Sygic AURA, is hitting just about every smartphone platform around.

The Sygic AURA puts an emphasis on 3D maps - it boasts a long list of cities with over 4000 3D landmarks in Europe and North America and there are cities in the Asia Pacific with over 900 landmarks.

Sygic AURA works as both in-car and as pedestrian navigation with nifty features to improve the experience for both.

The map data is preloaded to avoid both data charges (especially when roaming) and holes in the service in areas of spotty signal coverage. Check out the available maps and their completeness (including the lists of cities with 3D landmarks).

For in-car navigation there are perks like lane assistance, virtual highway signs, alerts for speed limit and safety cameras, plus traffic and weather information.

And if you choose to explore the city on foot, the AURA offers to share your location with your friends and view their location on the map, which makes it easy to find each other even in a new city. There is also an option to call a buddy or send them a message without leaving the app (a handy option for the iPhone).
