Tecno Camon 40 Premier unboxing

Ivan, 30 March 2025

Say hello to the Tecno Camon 40 Premier - a very intriguing mid-ranger that just debuted at the MWC. In Barcelona we handled all four members of the Camon 40 series, but it's now time for a proper unboxing.

The Tecno Camon 40 Premier is the nicest of the series. It ships in either this lovely Emerald Lake Green or Galaxy Black, both two-tone finishes. Inside the box is the phone, a color-matching case with a vegan leather finish, a 70W charger, and a USB-C to USB-A cable.

Last year's Camon 30 Premier was very well made, and it had a distinctive textured rear panel. Tecno has followed in the same design path with its successor, which we like.

The new camera ring has a knurled edge, similar to what you'd find in watches or high-end cameras. It houses a mostly unchanged camera system, however, that's no bad thing - the triple 50MP cameras are all great. The main shooter is has a 23mm f/1.9 lens and a large 1/1.56-inch imager, then there's a 70mm f/2.2 zoom with an impressive 1/2.76-inch sensor and a 15cm close-focusing distance, and a 14mm f/2.2 ultrawide with the same size sensor and autofocus. There's a fourth 50MP sensor upfront for the 24mm f/2.5 selfie camera.

The Camon 40 Premier keeps the red tally light on the back - it can also light up for notifications.

Other key improvements include a faster (if slightly smaller) 144Hz display, and full IP68/IP69 water and dust protection - the previous Premier was only splash ready.

We like Tecno's Camon Premier phones - they stick out from the crowd with superior specs (especially on the imaging front) and a better than most build quality.

The Tecno Camon 40 Premier leaves you wanting for nothing! All that's left are pricing and availability details and we hope to get those soon enough. We'll be back with more of the Tecno Camon 40 Premier in due time!
