Tecno Phantom V Fold2 review
LTPO OLED panels on both sides
The new Phantom V Fold2 retains the LTPO OLED panels for its outer and main screens. The diagonals and resolutions remain the same too.
The main, foldable display is 7.85" and features a rather standard square-ish aspect ratio with 2,000 x 2,295px resolution. The display also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit color depth.
The cover 6.42-inch screen has a taller aspect ratio with 1080 x 2550px resolution. This one runs at 120Hz and supports 10-bit color depth as well.
Unfortunately, maximum brightness isn't ideal for both displays. They both seem to cap at around 600 nits, slightly better than before, but not great overall. There's no boost in auto mode either.
Additionally, we are not fans of the ambient light control. The device relies on just one ambient light sensor positioned under the cover screen. This isn't ideal as the sensor can't pick up the ambient light properly when using the phone unfolded, placed on the desk, for example.
Battery life
The Phantom V Fold2 bumps the battery capacity to 5,750 mAh, up from the 5,000 mAh on the original V Fold. However, battery life remains somewhat unimpressive. The Active Use Score is 9:34h and it's less than what we expected.
Charging speed
Despite the upgrade from 45W to 70W wired charging, the V Fold2 doesn't impress with charging speed. It falls behind its competitors and is even slightly slower at the 15 and 30-minute marks than its predecessor, likely due to the bigger battery.
Still, from 0 to 100% in 1 hour isn't all that bad and in the first 30 minutes, you get more than half of the battery charge back.
Speakers
The device runs a pair of hybrid stereo speakers, which is a bit of a surprise, given that there should be enough room for a symmetrical, full-fledged speaker setup. This means the one that also acts as an earpiece is slightly quieter.
Unfortunately, the loudness score is rather low -27.1 LUFS, which still earns it a "Good" score but falls behind the competition and its predecessor.
In addition to sounding a bit too quiet, the stereo speakers are very dull and flat.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
