Tecno signs pop and R&B singer Lay Zhang as a global brand ambassador

Tecno is a smartphone brand, subsidiary of Transsion, that originates from Hong Kong and is currently headquartered in Shenzhen, China. The company is most popular in Africa, where it held almost half of the phone market for 2023, and one way of improving its brand presence back at home in Southeast Asia is going for a celebrity endorsement.

That's why Tecno announced today Lay Zhang as its Global Brand Ambassador, marking “an exciting new chapter” in the brand's unstoppable journey, said an official press release.

The name Lay Zhang is well-known in China, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia and to many C-Pop and K-Pop enthusiasts around the world. He was described by Tecno as an “actor, singer-songwriter, dancer, fashion trendsetter” with an undeniable influence, particularly in Asia.

According to the official message, Lay's “unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries” aligns seamlessly with Tecno's slogan “Stop at Nothing”. The goal is to inject fresh vitality into the branding initiatives and bring the brand's upward trajectory to new levels.

Lay Zhang said Tecno is a brand that mirrors his own journey of innovation and self-advancement. Laury Bai, Chief Marketing Officer at Tecno, said the internationally recognized artist was celebrated for his pursuit of excellence across diverse domains, exemplifying the “Stop at Nothing” mantra.

The partnership will include Tecno activities in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of Lay's world tour Grandline 4: Step.
