Tencent to buy Xiaomi's BlackShark Gaming division for $470M

Ro, 10 January 2022

A new report claims that the Chinese giant Tencent Games is about to acquire Xiaomi's BlackShark Gaming division in a deal worth approximately CNY 3 billion. That's a little over $470 million.

Details surrounding the acquisition are scarce and an official statement on the matter is still missing. Should it come to pass though Tencent will finally enter the gaming smartphone segment with a hardware offer of its own.

Previously Tencent struck partnerships with various smartphone makers, including Asus for its ROG Phone and nubia for the Red Magic series. With BlackShark, the company might be able to take its business overseas as well given that Xiaomi's division has already penetrated some big markets.
