Tesla announces Model 3, starts at $35,000

Prasad, 01 April, 2016

Elon Musk has finally taken the wraps off the highly anticipated Model 3, the most affordable Tesla car yet. While the company’s previous Model S and Model X cost upwards of $100,000, the Model 3 will start at $35,000. Not exactly cheap but a steal considering what you will get in return.

Despite being the company’s least expensive car, Tesla isn’t skimping out on the essentials. For starters, the Model 3 looks great, and you can see the family design lines in the glass area on the side that’s pinched at the back, tail lamps that crease into the back doors, and the massive swept back roof that is one large continuous piece of glass. The Model 3 does not have the faux grille at the front of the Model S, and instead there is just a blank area with an outline for the grille.

The base model of the 3 can go from 0-60 mph in around 6 seconds, and there will be faster models available with rear and all wheel drive options. The car is also capable of a 215 mile range with a fully charged set of batteries, which support Tesla’s Supercharger network spread across North America, Europe, and East Asia, which the company claims to double to around 7200 by the time the Model 3 is out on the streets. Inside, there is space for 5 adults and the 17-inch portrait touchscreen of previous Tesla models has been replaced with a 15-inch landscape touchscreen. The Model S will have Tesla’s Autopilot feature and the company claims it will be one of the safest cars in the world.

The Model 3 will start at $35,000 for the base model. The car will only available by the end of 2017 but bookings have already started for a booking amount of $1000. The Model 3 will have a much more global launch, with North America and Europe being joined by India, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Ireland, and more.

I think this one can handle winter, at least the Model S is quite good at it. But LEAF in winter... OMG, cold batteries are a pain, not only do they drain fast but they also will not accept fast charge, a charge that take 30 minutes in summer will ta...
