The EU is investigating Apple's planned purchase of Shazam

Vlad, 23 April 2018

Last December Apple announced its intention to buy Shazam, the well known music recognition service. It would complement Apple Music nicely in the company's portfolio, but the deal has just hit a wrinkle.

The EU has launched an extensive antitrust probe into the proposed takeover, which has a deadline of September 4. Until then, the EU will investigate whether Apple could use Shazam's data to lure people to its own music streaming service and turn them away from competitors.

It's alleged that Apple could get unfair access to commercially sensitive information about users of rival music services. Additionally, the authorities want to find out if Apple Music competitors would be harmed if Shazam stopped referring customers to them after the acquisition.

You do realise that otaku is a pejorative term? Not hating on manga/anime fans at all but it's equivalent to saying: "I have an unhealthy obsession over video games" instead of "I'm a video games fan".
