The first YotaPhone now available in the UK for £419

19 March, 2014

Remember the first YotaPhone? It comes with dual 4.3" displays - a front 720p LCD unit and a rear e-Ink screen with 200ppi density. It runs on Snapdragon S4 SoC with a dual-core 1.7GHz Krait processor and 2GB of RAM. The Android version inside is 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with lots of apps being optimized to use the e-Ink display effectively.

So, what's the deal with the e-Ink display on the back? Well, it is supposed to minimize the usage of the power-hungry front one, because most of the time the users power on the display just to check the time, emails or other notifications. Using only the e-Ink display you can enjoy your YotaPhone from 7 to 10 days. Impressive, right?

If this approach suits you and you live in the UK, you can now purchase the YotaPhone for £419. It is expensive, but it is quite unique and innovative so it's hard to say if it YotaPhone also ships to Germany, Spain, France and Austria and costs €499.

The YotaPhone has been on sale in its homeland - Russia - for a while and apparently it is now expanding its availability. YotaPhone has already announced the second-generation YotaPhone with a 5" 1080p front and a 4.7" qHD rear e-Ink displays. It is going to be powered by Snapdragon 800 chipset and run on Android 4.4 KitKat. Unfortunately its premiere is scheduled for Q4 this year in Russia and EMEA region, with US and EU markets getting it later on.

Dead in the water before it's even swam. 419 quid for what? A phone that's slower than a £50 android box. Pull the other one it's got bells on it.
