The Honor Magic V3 survives a series of torture tests

Ro, 23 August 2024

The Honor Magic V3 is already out and about in China and it's coming to Europe at the IFA expo at the start of next month. Not only is it the thinnest foldable on the market, but Honor also claims it's one of the most durable out there. The company Honor put its smartphone through a couple of torture tests to prove its ruggedness - a hydraulic press machine and a washing machine.

Usually, having an extremely thin and light smartphone comes at the expense of durability, but it appears the case is different with the Magic V3.

Under the hydraulic press machine, the V3's hinge withstood 1,150 kg of pressure, beating even a granite rock. This is mainly thanks to Honor's self-developed Super Steel.

Additionally, the V3 utilizes a special fiber that's stronger than Kevlar and standard carbon fiber, while the inner screen has an impact-resistant silicone gel material. Upon impact, it solidifies and protects the screen. On the other hand, the outer screen is protected by an anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield with 50% higher crystal density than standard displays.

Last, but not least, the handset is IPX8-certified and can be submerged to 2.5-meters depth without consequences. The washing machine test is a testament for that.

Honor's most advanced foldable phone yet will debut on September 5 during IFA 2024 in Berlin. But as you wait you should know we got a unit to do our own durability test and we put it through quite a lot. Keep an eye on our homepage to learn how it fared and if Honor's claims hold any water!

Durability you kidding me??? Saw jRE tests on fold 6??? Main screen died on mohs scale 3 thats equal to nail. Even a tooth pick can make permanent damage. First flip or fold which survives mohs pick 8 anywhere on the screen or body just like V...

And costrd 700 bucks not 200. The only exception is blackview Hero 10 a flip for 400 bucks.

If they can make $2k prototypes to test the market, they can also make $400, $700 entry level prototypes for same. So far all foldables with lower tier chipset have been successful in the market.
