The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 trio begins receiving an Android 12L-based update

Peter, 29 August 2022

Samsung’s first device to run software based on Android 12L is the new Galaxy Z Fold4. Of course, the tablet-centric version of Android is coming to Samsung’s tablets too, starting with the Tab S8 series.

The update has begun rolling out in Europe, watch out for the following versions: X70xBXXU2AVH2 for the Galaxy Tab S8, X80xBXXU2AVH5 for the Tab S8+ and X90xBXXU2AVH2 for the Tab S8 Ultra. The update is available for both the Wi-Fi only and 5G versions of the slates. It includes the August 2022 security patch.

What’s new? The taskbar feature lets you quickly switch between and launch apps (including app pairs in split-screen mode), without having to use DeX mode. Also, a two-finger gesture can be used to flip between full-screen and split-screen modes. Opening an app in a floating window is an option as well.

The update enables the Tab S8 slates to extract text from images (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are supported, in addition to English). Smart actions will appear next to the text, e.g. you can dial a number from a photo of a business card. The My Files app can search for information within files, including text in images.

There are a few other improvements, e.g. the Samsung Internet browser lets you reorganize your favorite sites with drag and drop (bookmarks can also be sorted), you can set a collection of images as wallpapers for the lockscreen and edit the collection later and so on.

I know this. But it does not make sense from a usuability point of view. Upon activation of DeX the taskbar should be simply deactivated. I think this is a bug that needs to be addresses quickly.,

Yes so after the update on the Normal screen not dex, go to settings and turn off Taskbar then go back into dex and it will work. I guess there being 2 task bars cancels them both.

Hi All, can anyone else confirm this problem after upgrade to the 12L-based One UI: The new taskbar also appears in DeX mode and this way hides the actual DeX bar. It makes DeX unusable currently, at least on Tab S8 Ultra. Without a keyboard, you...
