This is when Apple Intelligence gets OpenAI's new GPT-5
A few hours ago, OpenAI announced ChatGPT-5, the best ChatGPT yet. Since the unveiling, you may have been wondering when Apple Intelligence will incorporate GPT-5, as right now it uses the older GPT-4o.
According to a report from 9to5Mac, Apple will incorporate GPT-5 into the final releases of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26. All of those are expected to start rolling out next month, which is also when the iPhone 17 family should become official.
In Apple Intelligence, you can use Siri to access ChatGPT. Apple's assistant taps into ChatGPT to give answers when it's helpful for your request. You can also use ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence's Writing Tools, and use ChatGPT with Apple's Visual Intelligence with Camera Control to quickly learn more about what's around you.
All of these functions currently use GPT-4o but will be upgraded to GPT-5 with the release of the next versions of Apple's operating systems, so you won't have that long to wait to get all of the upgraded functionality in GPT-5.

Precisely. I couldn't even get OSS to work properly in LM studio. So far Qwen 3 8b has been the most reliable for my use cases.

As someone who almost exclusively runs local models, oss is a complete disaster. It's only real advantage is speed. I'm not sure the 20b model is better than Meta LLaMa 3.1 8b, just faster, while it loses decisively to Phi-4 and Gemma 3 12b...
