3 UK roadmap reveals 1.4 GHz Galaxy S II mini, Nokia X7

21 March, 2011

The Three UK roadmap just surfaced, revealing excitingly sounding devices such as a Samsung Galaxy S II mini and confirming that the Nokia X7 hasn't been canceled world-wide. Unlike the Galaxy mini, the S II mini will be a high-end smartphone, targeting those that find the Galaxy S II and its 4.3" screen a bit too large.

The leaked slides say that the Samsung Galaxy S II mini will launch as early as next month, featuring a 1.4GHz CPU (probably identical to what we saw on the HP Pre 3) and a 3.7" WVGA capacitive touchscreen.

In case you are into blazing fast 3G speeds you will be glad to know that the Gingerbread-running Samsung Galaxy S II mini will feature 21 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA (which is 4G in T-Mobile words). A 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, a front facing camera and Wi-Fi b/g/n support complete the feature set of the smartphone.

The other juicy bit confirmed by the roadmap is the existence of the Nokia X7. Many claimed that the Symbian^3 device is cancelled, but apparently 3 UK will start selling it in June. This probably means that the 4" touchscreen-touting X7 will be the device that Nokia is going to announce at CTIA.

Apparently the X7 will pack an 8 megapixel autofocus (whew!) camera with dual LED flash and a 4" nHD (supposedly ClearBlack) AMOLED screen.

The slides also confirmed that some other cool smartphones will be hitting the 3 UK shelves soon. Samsung Galaxy Pro should come in mid-April, while the HTC Desire S and Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc and Play should too come before April ends. The HTC Wildfire S, Nokia E7 and Samsung Galaxy S II should follow in May. The LG Optimus 3D and the HTC Chacha won't be available before June though.

Finally, we get to know that Three will also be getting the HTC Flyer tablet in May, the Wi-Fi-only BlackBerry Playbook in June and the excitingly looking slider netbook from Samsung with a 10" touchscreen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, announced at CES, further down the road.
