TikTok to exit the US market voluntarily
After the US Supreme Court upheld the TikTok ban unless it's sold to a US-based private investor, TikTok has decided to go dark after Sunday, January 19. In an official statement, the company pointed to the political uncertainty as the main reason for shutting down its service in the US.
The statement itself is pretty short and criticizes the Biden Administration for not providing a definitive statement on how the issue would be resolved and TikTok's future in the country. Essentially, there are no guarantees that the future Trump Administration wouldn't try to do the same, so it feels necessary to shut down.
One could argue that TikTok is trying to show its users what would happen if a ban took place. In a way, the company is trying to pressure a wide public response to the situation.
On the other hand, TikTok's concerns are not unfounded. President-elect Donald Trump hasn't been very vocal about what he would do with TikTok and is playing it low, so TikTok is indeed forced to operate in uncertainty.

Social media apps, it's either a blessing or a curse, depending on the persoon you ask it. I for one don't use it, I find it utter nonsense and not worthy to spend your time on.

Considering X and Meta are now cosying up to Trump, it looks like the most popular apps will now be heavily moderated by Republicans, including people who should be no where near Politics.
