TomTom reveals sporty watches, bands and car accessories

Peter, 01 September 2016

TomTom unveiled a trio GPS watches that are designed to help you explore the world while you get in shape - or just slalom down the slopes.

TomTom Adventurer

This one has special skiing and snowboarding features, but will track other activities too (hiking, running, swimming, cycling, gym exercises).

As you go down the slopes, the Adventurer will display live stats - speed, altitude and gradient. Perhaps it's best to pay attention - the watch will automatically detect when you get on the lift and display key stats.

The watch has a built-in heart rate monitor and a music player too. The TomTom Adventurer will be available in October for €300.

TomTom Spark 3 and Runner 3

These two are itching to go to unfamiliar places - the Route Exploration feature will plan new trails through places you've never been. And wherever you go, the watch will guide you back to your starting point through a different route.

The MySports website holds maps to undiscovered places and you can challenge your friends too. The Adventurer has this feature too, by the way.

The Spark 3 and Runner 3 do not have built-in heart rate monitors, but they will track running, cycling, swimming and how many calories you burned.

The TomTom Spark 3 and TomTom Runner 3 are on pre-order for €250, they will launch in October.

TomTom Touch

This one is more about getting in shape - the TomTom Touch has a built-in heart rate monitor and will measure your body composition, similar to how some scales do it.

While much smaller than the watches above, the Touch can still track your full exercise routine (running, cycling, swimming). It's available for pre-order for €150 and will launch in October.

TomTom GO, VIO, CURFER

Okay, enough running, time for internal combustion power! The new TomTom GO dedicated SatNav units integrate with personal assistants like Apple Siri, Google Now and Microsoft Cortana. They can even read out incoming texts and work as hands-free for calls. You'll be able to buy a GO with a 5" or 6" screen later this month.

TomTom VIO does for scooters what the GO does for cars. It has a curious round screen (kind of looks like a rear view mirror) and connects to your phone which serves as the brains. The VIO can use Bluetooth to send voice prompts to helmet audio system.

Finally, the TomTom CURFER is like a sports watch for your car. It will measure its heart rate - fuel efficiency, G-forces, braking efficiency - and will help you to slim down on tyre costs too. It's all based on a gamified system to motivate you to drive better.
