Two Android-running Motorola phones with MOTOBLUR show up

20 April, 2010

Motorola, China, spy-shots - the Motorola ZN4 and another unnamed Moto phone appeared in a quick in-the-wild photo shoot in a Chinese forum with tantalizingly little details about them. Not even the name of the second phone.

Google Translate was in a poetic mood, so we couldn't quite work it out, but one of these two phones is the Motorola ZN4 (which has nothing to do with the Motorola ZN5) and they are both prototypes.

This could be it, the Motorola ZN4

Anyway, both phones run Android (and it looks like Android 2.1 Eclair too) with Motorola's own MOTOBLUR interface. No specs are listed, but interestingly, the screens seem to have 16:9 aspect ratio - though that could just be distortion from the angle and the ratio could just be 15:9 (WVGA or WQVGA).

There's a video call camera on one of the two phones (hard to tell about the other one), so it will have 3G connectivity, but chances are these Motorola handsets will have the Chinese flavor of 3G rather than UMTS.

Or this could be the Motorola ZN4

There's one strange thing about them - Motorola has gone back to the Motorola A1200 form-factor with a transparent flap over the touchscreen. The earpiece was on that transparent cover, so they were like a clamshell/touchscreen bar cross-over.
