Anonymous, 21 Sep 2024I'm conflicted on this one, and it's for the same... more>SD card, if you're lucky enough for it to last 10 minutes
in my 15 years of using microSD, i have never had a single card corrupt or fail (with the exception of a scammy one i bought on ebay in 2015, just because the prospect of 1tb for $30 bypassed the logical part of my brain and went straight for the dopamine receptors—and because i knew full-well about how little things actually cost to manufacture, but yeah)
i had, in 2016, found a 2gb card on the literal sidewalk that still worked. it was february, and i live in canada—the card was covered in (probably salty) water, surrounded by snow. it had some dude's photos on it—no identifying info to return it to him, though.
the "corruption card" meme and all similar sentiment seems like a farce, from my perspective—microSD strikes me as highly durable, for something you only ever have out to swap between phones. maybe anyone else who has had them has gotten really unlucky—or had just straight-up bought a fake card.

floydb1982, 04 Sep 2024Android 15 is soon to be released. Will this smartphone be ... moreI'm not sure. But I don't think so because none of their other phones have updated to the next android level. That's most unfortunate. I think phones should allow at least one update to the next android.

justasmile, 04 Sep 2024For these perfect specs, I wonder how the update support wo... moreI hope they have updates. But based on past experience , I don't expect updates other than to fix software bugs. That's the one issue I have with these phones. If they had updates, they'd be nearly perfect.

floydb1982, 04 Sep 2024Android 15 is soon to be released. Will this smartphone be ... moreThe rugged phone I have now did not allow updates on the OS. Will the phone did allow updates but the maker never did release any. So I'm thinking that if there are any updates on Android 14 you might receive them but I don't think anything other than 14 is going to be offered for this phone (I hope I'm wrong but I'm not holding my breath waiting on an update).

tostefo, 11 Sep 2024OIS will never appear in rugged class and MIL-SPEC smartpho... moreThat basically limits it to recommendations for people who need the specific nigit vision / thermal features then, there's just too many other compromises at this price point (the screen isn't good, the cameras also probably won't be any good) to recommend for most people.

pogo pin, 19 Sep 2024Is it "the true standard wireless charging" or ps... moreIt says it has reverse wireless, so I'd assume it's got some level of Qi support even if it's just 15W.

I'm conflicted on this one, and it's for the same reasons as the HTC U13 Ultra, Sony Xperia 1 VI and Asus ZF11 Ultra. It makes the same mistake those phones did, in face in some ways it fares even worse.

On the one hand this could be the only actual rugged flagship we've seen since the S8 Active, while the 9300+ doesn't quite match the 8g3 (particularly in gaming) it's far faster than the 778G and 6100+ you get in the latest Xcovers. And it does this while still having a USB3 port, wireless charging (it has reverse so I assume it supports QI in some form) and all the classic features you can ask for (headphone jack is great because wireless still kinda sucks, IR blaster is always useful, SD card if you're lucky enough for those to last 10 minutes, FM radio is cool if you often go through signal blackspots).

The problem they seem to be using those great to have features to hide the fact the rest of the phone isn't great. I've seen enough to know throwing this much hardware at the cameras won't stop them being atrocious, Ulefone's software support has been shown to suck over the years and the screen is easily the weakest part of the whole phone. It's OLED and has 120hz and good brightness, but being FHD+ at this size just isn't good enough at this assumed price point when other manufacturers are offering QHD+ and the lack of LTPO is ridiculous now, which hurts the case for having such a massive battery.

Bringing back 2014's features can't be your only selling point on a flagship phone, it has to have everything else going for it too.

Is it "the true standard wireless charging" or pseudo-wireless through contacts in a ultraproprietary dock?

64MP in night camera looks so absurdly... It is blind without IR-leds, because so many MP means very small pixel size, but just large pixel size is needed for high sensitivity. And also large sensor size and f/1.4 aperture, of course. All serious night vision cameras have 1-3MP sensors, no more, with large pixel size 7-19μm. So it would be much better if they used big 2MP sensor, for example IMX482. It can provide color night vision at moonlight (0.1lx) and does not cost much.
