Unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8+ go on pre-order in the US, out on May 31

Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8+ have both been available from US carriers since last month, as you may know. However, if you've been waiting to get your hands on an unlocked unit, you've had no luck so far. That is about to change, though.

Today the unlocked versions of the two flagship devices have finally gone up for pre-order in the US, both at Samsung's own online store as well as Best Buy. The unlocked models will become available on May 31, online and in Best Buy stores.

If you're interested in the smaller S8, know that you'll have to part with $724.99 in order to get the unlocked version. On the other hand, the larger S8+ has been priced at $824.99. You can also choose Samsung's two-year financing, in which case you'll pay $30.21 per month for the S8, or $34.38 per month for the S8+.

Hopefully Samsung's software support for these will not be as appalling as for their predecessors, the S7 and S7 edge, which only this month got updated to Android 7.0 Nougat - a lot later than the carrier-specific versions.

These Sammy phones make all the others look old, just think about it. But you are right, time to play with colors and see how far this crazy screen and impressing design can fly.

The design is okay. But there is one obvious drawback: front bezel color are all black! This is dumber than before. Gold color phone should be gold on both side, not "gold on back, black on front". Silly!
