Upcoming iPad Pro and Air may offer matte and glossy display options

A tipster on Weibo with still-questionable accuracy claims that Apple suppliers have already sent iPad Air samples to the US and it is possible that the device will be offered in two variants - with a glossy or matte screen. The same applies to the upcoming iPad Pro.

However, it's unclear whether the tipster meant a full-fledged matte finish or an anti-reflective coating like the one on the Pro Display XDR from 2019. The texture uses nano-texture glass, forming an anti-reflective pattern and mitigating that mirror-like effect. Samsung did something similar with its brand-new Galaxy S24 Ultra, which makes the report rather plausible.

The same source posted a report about the iPhone 17 series, claiming the future phones will feature the same anti-reflective tech found on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

It's a bit too early to make something out of this, but our bet is that the iPads will likely introduce an improved anti-reflective tech, which will trickle down to iPhones next year.

Having more options is always a good thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple charged a lot of $$ for a matte screen than a matte screen protector costs
