Upcoming second generation Chromecast design and features leak

Prasad, 18 September, 2015

The second generation Chromecast launch is around the corner, and 9to5Google has received some documents that reveal the device's new design and some of the new features.

First off is the frying pan like design, which seems confusing in the blurry low resolution images although we expect the pointy end to plug into your TV via HDMI as before. It also will come in three colors, black, red, and bright green.

9to5Google also claims the new Chromecast will have improved Wi-Fi, possibly adding support to 802.11ac band.

There will also be support for content feeds on the homescreen, although it's not clear what the feeds refer to at this point (possibly news or social media).

A Fast Play feature has been added that seemingly improves the speed to cast content to the Chromecast. There will also be something called Chromecast Audio, it will allow the Chromecast to output audio through an aux jack to audio systems. It will also bring multi-room audio somehow and have mirroring for Chrome or Android audio.

The new Chromecast is expected to be announced on September 29 at an event, the same day the two new Nexus devices are expected to be announced.

They look like Christmas tree ornaments, makes sense since Jesus' birthday is only a few months away. I hope some of the added features like Fast Play and Chromecast Audio are offered through a firmware update or the original (and better looking) mod...

Just a thought. If it is going to be plugged in behind the TV and be hidden, why would Google go to the bother of producing it in different colours?
