Canadian carrier Bell to roll out RCS service soon

Himanshu, 27 June 2017

Bell's customers will soon be able to enjoy Rich Communications Services (RCS). A quick look at the carrier's software update page for the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ reveals the service is "coming soon in select areas."

For the uninitiated, RCS is an enhanced version of SMS offering high-resolution photo sharing, instant group chats, read receipts, and more. Currently, only Fido and Rogers offer RCS support in Canada.

The flagship duo on Bell's network have been getting an update that adds support for RCS. In addition, the update also brings along improvements related to Voice and Video over LTE.

Bell and Telus only share the radio network. RCS is part of core network implementation. So no they do need to support it independently.

Telus will also support it since both share their networks (not roaming, they just share it )
