Verizon is apologizing to some customers for Pixel shipping delays with a free Daydream View VR headset
Google's Pixel and Pixel XL are very hard to find even now, many months after their release. In fact, Verizon has consistently issued shipping estimates of one to two months for the handsets, and not just at the beginning of sales - as recently as last month, if you ordered a Pixel, you were in for quite a wait.
Now the carrier is sending "a subset" of Pixel buyers a free gift to say "thank you" to them for staying loyal and not canceling their orders despite the very long shipping times - namely a Daydream View VR headset, normally a $80 value (although a current promotion has seen this cut to $50 for a limited time). This was confirmed by a Verizon spokesperson, but unfortunately there are no additional details on how you'd get onto that list.
It's also a bit ironic that Verizon wants to send the Daydream View to people who are still waiting for their Pixels to ship, since they will need those Pixels to actually be able to use the headset. Anyway, it's a gesture of goodwill after all, and there's probably not much the carrier can do to sort out Google's abysmal way of managing Pixel demand.
