Vertu makes its first touchscreen phone, the Constellation T

04 October, 2011

Vertu has been around for many years now, thirteen, to be precise, but in all these years they have never released a touchscreen phone into the market. Perhaps they thought of it as a fad that will pass or perhaps they did not like the idea that there were fewer buttons on them that can be encrusted with precious stones.

Whatever the reason may by, things are about to change. The first ever touchscreen device from Vertu is going to be the Constellation T. The device is yet to be properly announced, however, and has only come to light thanks to the Bluetooth SIG website, which lists all the products that get the Bluetooth certification.

The specs on this new handset include a 3.5-inch, nHD AMOLED touchscreen display, dual mode WCDMA Penta-band 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz and GSM quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 connectivity, 8 megapixel EDoF camera with twin LED flash and heptagon lens, 32GB internal memory, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, automatic location aware dual-time zone clock with City Briefs, and FM radio.

The device will probably be based on some variant of Symbian with a customized UI so you don't realize you are using the same basic OS as other mere mortals. And as usual there will be enough precious metals and jewels on it to put your local jewelry shop to shame.

No pricing or availability is known at this point. For that we will have to wait for the official launch.
