How does it compare to phones such as Realme 6i, Realme 5, Oppo A53 and Huawei P30 Lite?

Redmi 9 chipset is more powerful, but it's not that much powerful. Since you don't play games, you have nothing to worry about.
And even if you do play games, the difference in performance isn't that big.
About battery, anyone that says his phone lasts 2 days is either lightweight user or is lying.
Be it 4000mAh phone or 5000, it'll last 1-1.5 days max.
About software, Xiaomi's MIUI is the heaviest Android OS. It also has most bugs, lowest performance and lowest battery timing.
For proof, you can compare any Xiaomi phone "Benchmarks" on Gsmarena with any phone from Vivo, Realme, Oppo and others that have the same "chipset".
That being said, I don't know much about Vivo OS. But since your alternative is Redmi 9, you don't have much to worry about.
Cameras or at least camera specs of Vivo S1 are much better than Redmi 9.
If you buy Redmi 9, you will 100% need to find a good Gcam in order to take decent pictures from it. It's just very poor. Same for Redmi Note 9.
Vivo S1 also has higher brightness. While Redmi 9 is too low for outdoors.
Note: I hate Vivo phones. Just giving an honest comparison.

Since Android 10 is released and Vivo S1 received update to upgrade from Android 9 and Funtouch OS 10. You should add upgradable description. But I don't know until now if all region in the world already got their update to upgrade to Android 10 yet until now... But its still a useful information to people who want Vivo Phone that has Android 10 on midrange spec

I'm planning to buy vivo S1. So, I want to ask the performance compare with Redmi 9. Is it have any major differences ? Just for casual usage not for gaming.
Also, how about the software ? I heard some rumor Funtouch is full of bloatware and butcher the performance. Is it true ? Also, how good is the battery life ? Can it reaches one or two day of usage ?
