SGH Fan, 27 Aug 2024Vivo has already released 52 phones this year, and don'... moreYes, it is, but these companies don't care because they have to keep exponentially growing their profits, and the best way for them to do that in the budget phone market is to keep releasing useless devices that become e-waste in half a year so their customers keep buying another phone and giving them more money. For many people who don't have a lot of money but need a phone, budget devices like this are their only real option, which usually means that they end up spending more money than people who are able to afford a midrange phone that lasts for a few years. If used and refurbished devices were more accessible in the markets that companies like Vivo are targeting, then people could choose those higher quality used phones over a new budget phone. But unfortunately, it's hard to sell refurbished and used phones for a profit in the budget segment of the phone market. One reason for this is because of a lack of right to repair laws, meaning that things like battery replacements take a long time. As someone who used to repair and resell phones on eBay, it's usually not worth it to spend an hour replacing a phone's battery just to make a $10 profit. While right to repair laws would take a while to make an impact on older refurbished devices, it's better to implement the laws now so that by 2030, the older flagships that have fallen in value will be repairable. The best time to make these laws was years ago, but the second best time is now.

SGH Fan, 27 Aug 2024Vivo has already released 52 phones this year, and don'... moreMaybe too many chipsets bought thus releasing more phones cut out those initial losses? I would probably do this too if newer chipsets comes in, and the current ones quickly become obsolete. Correct me if I'm wrong, do electronic companies care about e-waste? I think not.

Vivo has already released 52 phones this year, and don't forget the X200 coming later this year. Isn't that too many phones?

Until Vivo starts using UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5 on their midrange devices, to me, they are paperweight.
