This phone is truly on of the masterpieces Vivo ever made for the last 9 years I have a lot of fond memories with it. This phone is a keeper.

They never said they removed the jack to make the phone thinner, but to save space. I don’t like the decision because I went back to wired earphones but what you put is a strawman argument.

YUKI93, 09 Jun 2021So this is the thin phone Mrwhosetheboss is talking about*.... moreIt is true Vivo X5Max with such a small battery and also battery hogging Snapdragon 615 (28nm process) provided subpar battery life. Even when new, my X5Max under heavy usage barely lasted for half day.

But I believe X5Max was never designed for practicality but for a statement. A statement that an unknown Chinese brand back in 2014 named "Vivo" makes the thinnest smartphone in the world. This is for creating an identity on the international scene, to gain respect.

Apart from the small 2300mAh battery, X5Max is a great phone. It has rock solid build quality, very high quality flagship grade built to be precise. Excellent display and call quality. Only the battery was minuscule to attain the record breaking 5.1mm thickness (Global variant). Vivo knew this shortcoming very well so they also introduced a fatter version of the same phone named "X5Max Platinum Edition" with 4150 mAh battery.

I bought X5Max (Global variant) with GMS for only one reason, analogue audio quality through headphone jack. It devastated anything available in the market in its time be it Apple, Samsung or even LG. X5Max had stellar audio quality courtesy the holy trinity of ESS Sabre ES9018 + ESS Sabre ES9601 + Texas Instruments OPA1612 op-amp combination in a phone. Audio was heaven on earth back then on this phone. Still is. I listen to this phone even today, it has the level of resolution & detail which was unheard back then. However it lacked the juice to power proper sized cans, hence best options were to stick to good earphones. I still laugh when jerks speaks that removal of audio jacks was necessary to slim down the phone.

This phone is super thin, 4.75mm thick, but still got a headphone jack. So if a company wants to put a headphone jack on the phone, they can put a headphone jack on the phone. No reasons, Apple

So this is the thin phone Mrwhosetheboss is talking about*. Having a thin-looking phone does look nice, but it really does take a toll on battery capacity. For such a small battery capacity, I'd rather have one running Windows Phone OS. It has a much better memory and battery management optimization than Android OS.

As requested details of the last software update for Vivo X5Max:

                                    FuntouchOS Version: 2.0
                                    Android Version: 4.4.4 (KitKat)
                                    Android security patch: Mar, 2016
                                    Software Version: PD1408F_EX_B_2.3.5

Released in Dec, 2014, the international variant of Google certified Vivo X5Max never received any android software update and till date remains with KitKat version. However Vivo did provide android security patch updates for the phone for just 1 year and 4 months ending in Mar, 2016.

Very accurate and natural sounding and sometimes may sound downright clinical. However it has the level of audio resolution which is very hard to come by in smartphones.

                                      2) Perfect balance of audio quality and headphone driving power: Lenovo Vibe X3. More melodious, musical sounding of the two, little less resolution than X5Max but with powerful headphone amplifier able to drive proper over the ear headphones. Vibe X3 is also the overall better device of the two.

However in terms of audio through headphone jack, my LG V30+ & Vivo NEX S are even better and comes with native DSD playback capabilities. V30+ & NEX S have explosive headphone drive capabilities, able to produce 2 Vrms at the headphone out, two times that of Vibe X3. The new phones are one step above X5Max & Vibe X3.

But still till today I own all four of them and listen to all of them.
