Very impressive specs for a foldable. The only thing that bothers me is the 2x telephoto. Why is it there?
It's only 2x (main 50 mp sensor can easily make 2x photos with lossless quality), small and with no OIS.
A) ditch the telephoto so the phone is a couple of grams lighter and a couple of bucks cheaper
B) ditch the telephoto and use the new space for a decently sized 50 mp ultrawide
C) replace the telephoto with a more powerful periscope 5x like on Mate x3, risk added weight and price tag
They picked the worst possible outcome.
Other than that, well done, Vivo

Those square foldable makes absolutely no sense. Most apps don't support them properly and you either get black bars in a big part of the screen and/or a smishapped app experience.
They purport that they turn a 6.5 inch phone into a 8 inch tablet, but they don't really. They actually usable/useful screen size is closer to 7 inches than it is to 8 inches.
At which point, what's the point, we already have flagship phones at near 7 inches (legit 7 inches, that apps make use of).
Why buy a phone with twice the thickness of a regular flagship and only marginally bigger screen? 5 years in and the foldables have still to solve the aspect ration dilemma. What a terribly gimmicky idea of improving the phone experience .
It's literally the #1 thing to solve (how to *actually* make the internal screen bigger) and they have failed.

I absolutely love the phone. It's almost perfect and I'd even consider getting it, if it wasn't for these issues:
1. The telephoto is only 12MP and only does 2x zoom (my Google Pixel 7 Pro's telephoto is 48MP and does 5x zoom).
2. The ultrawide is only 12MP (I still hate how most premium phones, including my one, still only have a 12MP ultrawide).
3. The selfie cameras only do 1080p@30fps (I need that good ole' 2160p@60fps at the minimum, it's fine if it doesn't do 8k at all).
4. The outer screen is not 6.7 inches (probably an extremely unpopular opinion) and is 21:9 (I prefer 19.5:9 or 20:9), and the inner screen does not have a high enough pixel density. I want either 3120 x 2880 or 3200 x 2880, or at the very least either 2340 x 2160 or 2400 x 2160 damn it.
5. The circular camera encasing is a bit bland and generic.
6. There is no IPX8 rating.
Still, points 4., 5. and 6. are not points that are important enough to make me not want to get the phone. Especially point 4., as 6.5 inches is still close, and so is 21:9. Besides, the 21:9 aspect ratio makes it basically the same size as a 6.7 inch 20:9 display but less wide.
What is really good about the phone is the red version's colour, the faux leather back, the 8 inch inner screen size, the wide sensor, the hinge design and the almost perfect outer screen size.

Me, 18 Apr 2023Hi, i personally dont think so, Vivo has a lawsuit in Germa... moreI did the same. Standard XFold 8 gen 1. its a great phone and no hardware or quality issues, apart from no horizontal screen splitting and no international version, but looking to see what the what the Xaomi Mix fold 3 specs are, purely because of the weight and thickness. also..I'm not a pro photographer.but need the 8 inch screen google & financial data.
