October 8 has come and HTC is having its promised press event in New York. The company is anticipated to announce at least two new products - a selfie-centric smartphone and its debut action camera.

The smartphone is believed to be the HTC Desire Eye with a 13MP front-facing camera joined by a dual-LED flash. Rumors suggest the phone is packing a 5.2" 1080p display and a Snapdragon 801 chipset with 2GB of RAM. The phone is also water resistant and boasts an IPX7 certification. We'll report on everything there's to know about the phone once the event kicks off.

HTC will also announce a non-smartphone product, namely the Re action camera. It looks like a periscope and is poised to go against the likes of GoPro and Sony Action Cam. So far, we know that it's going to be a wide-angle camera, but not much more.
