Weekly poll: Nothing Phone (2) open sales are about to begin, are you getting one?

After successfully entering the phone market, it’s time for Nothing to grow – and the Nothing Phone (2) did just that, going from the 6.55” of the original to 6.7”. Since open sales of the second generation model begin next week we wanted to take a vote on whether this was the right direction for Nothing to take.

Besides being larger, the new OLED panel is also the LTPO type, so it can precisely dial in its refresh rate between 1-120Hz. This is something out of reach for the Galaxy S23/S23+, Pixel 7/7a and iPhone 14/14 Plus.

Having mentioned those, let’s get into the Nothing Phone (2) pricing. The base 8/128GB model is $600/£560/€680/₹45,000. That’s above Pixel pricing, on par with the Galaxy S23, below the S23+ and Moto Edge+/Edge 40 Pro and well below the iPhone 14s.

In our hands-on review, we note that using the Phone (2) feels a lot like using a Pixel. The only additions to stock Android are some stylish widgets that match the hip aesthetic of the phone and, of course, the app that controls the Glyph interface lights, but that’s about it. This hearkens back to early OnePlus days, complete with the hype machine piloted by Carl Pei. By the way, Nothing has confirmed that the Phone (2) will see 3 OS updates and 4 years of security patches.

The price increase over the original Phone (1) also pays for a more powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, new 50MP sensor for the main camera (IMX890) and a better selfie cam and a boost to the battery – 4,700mAh with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging (up from 4,500mAh and 33/15W).

However, the higher price also comes with higher expectations. The Glyph interface brings a breath of fresh air in an industry that’s becoming stagnant in terms of design and Nothing has come up with fun new features to get users to engage with the Glyph. Pre-orders for the Nothing Phone (2) are already live and open sales start tomorrow (July 17), except in India where they kick off on Thursday (July 21).

And in cased you missed it, yes, the Phone (2) is available in the US and Canada as well, adding a new option to the list of alternatives to the Apple/Samsung duopoly. There it will have to go up against OnePlus, but doesn’t have to worry about the Xiaomis, Pocos, Realmes, etc. of the world.
