The Windows Phone Mango update will be known as WP 7.5

26 April, 2011

We've just got confirmation that the next major update to the Windows Phone mobile OS will bring its own version number. Obviously Microsoft though that the update, codenamed Mango is bringing enough new functionality to the table to be worthy of it.

So Mango, which will be available to developers from May and will bring the long awaited multitasking support, will instead go by Windows Phone 7.5. Some other goodies brought by this update include better integration of third party apps, which should offer improved use of the Live Tiles on the homescreen.

Microsoft will also finally be granting 3rd party developers access to the camera and motion sensor libraries so they can create more elaborate apps. They will also be improving the Windows Marketplace accessibility and monetization opportunities.

All in all, it seems that Windows Phone 7.5 will be a worthy rival to the forces that are currently dominating the smartphone market - Android an iOS. That's why we believe it's a good idea to give it a new name so it would be easier for customers to spot the difference.

Now how about a more specific release date for end users and information on specific device upgrades?

it will be like Google's Android if they do that, but Samsung may suggest putting on multiple home screens since they did it with many others of their smart phones in the past up until now.
