Marco M, 28 Feb 2023"The Xiaomi 13 has a worse screen than the Samsung S23... moreIt's obvious you love Xiaomi strongly with your heart, but there is no need to invent specs to make it look better than it actually is. The normal Xiaomi 13 has a 8-bit screen.

Also, the sensor is really average and with MIUI ISP is mediocre. Many midrangers have better cameras.

The Xiaomi 13 has an 8 bit display as well

notafanboy, 02 Mar 2023Ok SteveYou are called "notafanboy" but you give your life for Chinese brands while at the same time you deeply hate Samsung and Apple. That's called inferiority complex my friend. ;)

Marco M, 28 Feb 2023"The Xiaomi 13 has a worse screen than the Samsung S23... moreBy looking at your profile it's obvious you're a Xiaomi lover but please, don't try to boost up marketing tags and try to ignore the huge weak points this phone has, like if it was a 200$ mid range. The 4k selfie one just got no sense, you praise Dolby Vision for a 6" screen (which you won't even notice) yet you say 4k is not useful for social media, like if you record your videos for Instagram and not for your personal usage or something.

Also the camera is garbage. How can you say it's superior when the sensor is way too average + MIUI ISP (by far the worst ISP from all major brands) equals to disaster. And comparisons and reviews are proving it.

I mean you didn't have to write such an essay praising Xiaomi as it doesn't even make sense. The camera is not good, the display is good but nothing out of common displays (wow dude Dolby Vision which is something you pay to show in your specs and 10-bit 1B colors, the human eye can't see more than 10 million colors so again just marketing) also why you'll need to record Dolby Vision videos if your quality is still lacking quite or much compared to the other phones? But it has Dolby Vision!!!!!

999 - 1099€ for this is an absolute joke. With MIUIBUG to enhance the experience.

very nice phone, great back camera, front and mainly the specs with Gen 2 its a beast, but I've notice in my xiaomi 13 front cam just keep blurring in low light condition especially in messenger app and Tiktok app when im trying to do Video call or Record something in tiktok. but in good lighting its far better than my previous poco f2 pro, i hope they can optimize it with those upcoming software updates. xiaomi 13 10/10 still!!!! great deal

captain fokou, 28 Feb 2023Well, why would anyone by this over an honor magic 5 or a g... moreI would buy it because it is more beautiful then S23,especially magic 5/pro

omeninodomorro, 27 Feb 2023Who gone give 999$ for this. Its over price for a phone tha... morebetter than s23 ultra that roughly has the same price as 14 pro max😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

A honest Xiaomi user, 27 Feb 2023The cameras of the Xiaomi 13 are much worse than the Samsun... more"The Xiaomi 13 has a worse screen than the Samsung S23 as it has lower dpi and lower auto brightness, also lower contrast and worse calibration."

Duh! All two devices with the same resolution and different screen size will result in a DPI difference. Good luck spotting the individual pixels in the Xiaomi 13 over the S23. They are both good enough in terms of resolution, Captain Grasping at Straws ;-)

Then the rest of your statement is simply incorrect.

Xiaomi 13 screen brightness test results:
Xiaomi 13 (Max Auto) Min 0 Max 1254 nits
                              Manual mode 507 nits

Samsung S23 screen brightness test results:
Samsung Galaxy S23 (Max Auto) Min 0 Max 1198
                              Manual mode 476 nits

So the Xiaomi reaches higher in both tests and in case you don't know anything at all about contrast, it is based on the maximum brightness vs. the minimum brightness. Minimum is 0 for both due to the amoled panels, hence "infinite" contrast, but realistically the Xiaomi offes higher contrast as it offers higher maximum and peak brightness. And this is sustained maximum brighthess where Xiaomi 13 actually delivered slightly above specs and we know peak brightness is significantly higher than Samsung's S23.

Whats more the S23 only has a 8-bit panel, capable of displaying only 16.7 million colors, where the Xiaomi has a 10-bit panel capable of displaying 1 billion colors.

In other words, a superior display on the Xiaomi 13.

"Who sees movies on a 6" display and anyways, right now Dolby Vision is barely supported by 1-2% of movies from online streaming platforms such as Netflix, HBO or Roku."

Yey! Statistics from a comment section is my favorite, how did you know?

Did you know that teenagers and young adults under the age of 30 don't have anywhere near the same relationship to large screen TVs as the previous generations did? It's the smartphone is the main display and Dolby Vision is not at all the same as basic HDR10 at all. The benefit of DV's dynamic metadata fully utilizing the capabilities of the display is superior to the static metadata of HDR10, which is what the S23 is limited to from Netflix, Disney+ etc.

Even if the S23 gained support for DV, which it likely won't because Samsung is too cheap when it comes to DV, it still wouldn't be able to reproduce 10-bit colors nor reach the peak brightness of the Xiaomi.

Pretty much all new Disney+ and almost all new Netflix, Amazon etc is Dolby Vision, despite Samsung's failed attempt to throw money at Amazon to use their HDR10+.

As near as make no difference, all movies in theater since 2015 have had Dolby Vision and even old classic movies have one by one been getting the Dolby Vision treatment as well. Not just mainstream classics and blockbusters, but even cult classics most people haven't heard of have Dolby Vision releases now.

I get it, you like Samsung and you want a Samsung device. which is fine. Go get it. Being biased is allowed.

The main camera sensor is larger and Xiaomi's software offers less noise and less over sharpening. A clear win. The telephoto has longer range, and is also a larger sensor. On the ultrawide the S23 should be better. So if ultrawide is more important for the user than the primary and/or telephoto, then S23 is okay to go for.

With regards to the front facing camera. 4k video recording with the onboard camera app could be used for vlogging, except it's isn't ideal for that, being at a 26mm focal lenght and a max aperture of f/2.2. Not ideal for vlogging, where 24mm or less is recommended. So the Xiaomi 13 with its 22mm focal range and f/2.0 would actually be more suitable. I don't get why Xiaomi doesn't offer 4K video recording though their native app, other than perhaps optimizing for 1080p instead since most apps only support 1080p or less.

The 4K recording from the selfie camera has limited 3rd party support btw. Many apps limit to 720p still (Messenger and Google meet in example) whilst some limits to 1080p (Skype). So it really only matters for vloggers, who would likely get a better phone than either of these two.

If the front facing video recording at 4k is the main purpose of the phone, than sure, the S23 supports it and the Xiaomi 13 doesn't, natively at least.

"Sound is neither better than S23 as it might be a bit more powerful in internal speakers, but the quality is worse, the bass is much worse, there is no real Hi-Fi support as the Xiaomi can only stand 192kHz audio and the S23 offers real Hi-Fi 384kHz"

Where to begin? Do you even know what Hi-Fi is? Stereo music typically has a 44.1kHz sample rate, and is 16-bit, even lossless on CDs. Some master at 48 or 96 kHz, which again is within what the Xiaomi supports, but streaming services (Tidal, Spoitfy etc) cap it at 44.1 kHz though. Video streaming services, such as Netflix, with surround formats, use 48 kHz (24-bit).

Objectively performed measurements of the built-in speakers show that the Xiaomi performs better. With external equipment connected by bluetooth, it will be equal, regardless of Samsung's marketing gimmicks.

The GPS system of the Xiaomi also wins, and it has infrared sensor. Some nice bonuses to have.

As for the price, I've already agreed with the previous comment, the Xiaomi 13 is priced high compared to this rival and the iphone 14 and especially the Pixel 7. Yes, the pixel 7 is worse in most aspects, but for the non-enthusiast user it's just as capable as the Xiaomi 13, Samsung S23 and iphone 14 and a great deal price wise.
