Xiaomi 15 series and OnePlus 13 to have ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors

Vlad, 04 March 2024

Xiaomi's flagship smartphones have had in-display fingerprint sensors for many years now, but they've all been of the optical variety. The same goes for OnePlus. That might, however, change next year with the Xiaomi 15 series and OnePlus 13.

According to two separate sources on Weibo, China's equivalent of X (formerly Twitter), Xiaomi is currently testing ultrasonic fingerprint sensors for the upcoming Xiaomi 15 flagship family, which is already in development.

The Xiaomi 15 will keep the fully flat screen of its predecessor, while the Ultra will go with a curvier glass just like the 14 Ultra.

It's not just Xiaomi - the OnePlus 13 is also apparently switching to an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, joining Samsung's flagships and some vivo high-end devices in using this technology that, in our experience, has the potential to make unlocking faster and more accurate.

It's still early days for the development of these devices that are launching near the end of the year in China and probably in early 2025 internationally, so things might change in the future. That said, we're excited to see ultrasonic fingerprint readers on more handsets.

You can use them as long as it works. If it doesn't work, that means the screen protector company cheated you. They shouldn't be selling it, or sell it with disclaimer that fingerprint will not work and users would need to use alternate log...

that phone isn't even designed to have flagship cameras though. redmagic is a gaming phone. same as rog from asus.

so screen protectors are not advised to use on phones with in display fingerprint?
