They'll do anything to get an iphone. Today, getting an iphone is the ultimate status symbol. Even though they dont offer features that are even present on budget phones now a days, people will still buy them, because everyone is a mindless zombie hopping from trend to trend. And unfortunately, Xiaomi is associated with cheap, because they offer so many budget options. I think they're doing this to show that they also sell premium phones.

Xiaomi 17 pro and pro max will be so good designwise and hardwarewise. I hope os will follow.

Xiaomi is leaving the 16 series in favour of the 17 because they're going head to head against Apple. Here's a few reasons why: Apple is second on the list of phone manufacturers and Xiaomi is 3rd. They want the 2nd place position. To get it, you need to sway Apple fans. How can you achieve it if your device is totally different from what they are used to.
So Xiaomi has added a few things from apple like the dynamic island, Titanium (only available in iPhone 17 Air) which first debuted in Xiaomi 15 series, and some apps that can allow interaction with iOS powered devices.
Who knows what the HyperOS 3 interface would look like.
Now what is Xiaomi's secret weapon against Apple? Better all round Camera (Argue with You-tube), bigger battery, First time user incentives like (free Xiaomi tablet, Free 120wt charger, free earbuds, etc) while still delivering fast updates (4 years max for now).
So the naming is not about trying to look like Apple otherwise we can argue that Tim Cook is secretly using a Poco F6 pro (the design that inspired the iPhone 17 line up).
The company that copied apple is Oppo in the x8 ultra and MKBHD said they did it shamelessly. But that phone is better than the iPhone 16 pro max. See what I mean. They copy Apple to be better than Apple.
