Xiaomi 17 brings Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 7,000 mAh battery
The Xiaomi 17 arrives on the scene as the first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-equipped phone and it also brings a few more notable upgrades over its predecessor.
The big one is the new 7,000mAh Si/C battery, which features up to 16% silicon content and 100W wired fast charging. The 17 also supports 50W wireless charging and up to 22.5W reverse wireless top-ups.
Up front, Xiaomi is bringing a 6.3-inch M10 LTPO OLED with a 1,220 x 2,656 px resolution and a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate. The screen features up to 3,500 nits peak local brightness and Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass. Xiaomi has also trimmed down the bezels, which measure just 1.18mm on all four sides, and you still get an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
The phone features a flat aluminum frame and is IP68 water and dust-resistant. The back gets a triple camera setup similar to last year. There’s a 17mm equivalent 50MP ultrawide lens, a 23mm equivalent 50MP main shooter armed with the 1/1.31” Light Hunter 950 sensor and a 60mm equivalent 50MP telephoto with 2.6x optical zoom. The selfie shooter has been upgraded to 50MP.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is paired with a 4,497mm² vapor chamber, 12/16GB RAM and 256/512GB storage. The phone ships with HyperOS 3 and comes in black, white, blue and pink colors.
The baseline 12/256GB trim starts at CNY 4,499 ($630) in China. There’s a mid-tier 12/512GB version for CNY 4,799 ($672) while the top-tier 16/512GB model is CNY 4,999 ($700). Pre-orders are live in China with shipments starting on September 27.

Maybe like last year. There's 1 variant of SD Elite which is 1 core CPU missing. It runs slower but cooler.

Xiaomi manages to put a 7000 mAh battery in a 6.3-inch phone, but the iPhone, despite all that engineering, can only fit half that amount of battery...
