Xiaomi Mi Max with 6.44" screen, Snapdragon 652 unveiled
Xiaomi Mi Max is what budget-minded fans of huge screens have been waiting for. And we do mean huge - 6.44" from corner to corner. That screen is housed in a metal unibody that measures 7.5mm thick. The size, plus the massive 4,850mAh battery, push the weight to a hefty 203g.
There are three versions in total. The top version has a Snapdragon 652 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. There's a 3GB/64GB option as well. The most affordable model uses the Snapdragon 650 instead and has 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage.
The difference in chipset is two extra Cortex-A72 cores for the CPU (for a total of 4x A72 + 4x A53). Both use the new generation Adreno 510 GPU, which should be more than powerful enough to drive the 1080p screen. All three versions have a hybrid dual-SIM slot so that you can add more storage.
The Xiaomi Mi Max runs the new MIUI 8 (based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow). The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the back for extra security.
The camera department boasts a 16MP shooter with dual-LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera (with an 85° lens).
The Mi Max will be available in Silver, Light Grey and Gold and will first go on sale on May 17. The S650/3GB/32GB version will cost CNY 1,500 ($230/€200), the S652/3GB/64GB one is CNY 1,700 ($260/€230) and the top S652/4GB/128GB model will go for CNY 2,000 ($300/€270).
Note that the prices outside of China will likely be higher once shipping and local taxes are accounted for.
