Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro review

Display
The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro features an 11.2-inch IPS LCD screen of 3,200 x 2,126 pixels or 345ppi density - nicely sharp for a tablet! The panel supports 144Hz refresh rate, 68B colors, 360Hz touch sampling, and both HDR10 and Dolby Vision standards.

Xiaomi also points out that its screen supports DC dimming with 4,096 brightness levels.
And you can get this tablet with a matte glass on top of the screen.
The display is of very good quality with barely noticeable unevenness in the backlighting around the edges (only on white backgrounds), and it exhibits only a minimal contrast shift when you look at it at an angle.
According to the official specs, the peak brightness of this panel is 800 nits.
We have completed our usual display measurements, and the brightness numbers are indeed solid - 607 nits for maximum manual and 763 nits for maximum automatic brightness.
The minimum brightness at a white patch was just 1.6 nits.
The screen supports up to 144Hz refresh rate. According to the hardware scanning apps the display supports 30Hz, 48Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, and 144Hz steps.
The available modes in the Settings menu are two - Default (read Auto) and Custom, where you choose a refresh rate ceiling - 60Hz, 90Hz and 144Hz.
The 144Hz mode acts exactly like the Default automatic mode, while the rest put a ceiling to the maximum refresh rate - 60Hz and 90Hz. When set on Auto or 144Hz, the system uses 120Hz when there is moving content.
We have also seen 48Hz for 24fps videos, 50Hz for 48fps videos, 90Hz across some a couple of apps, and we witnessed 120Hz most of the time. Oddly, we never saw 144Hz - not even in games or benchmarks.
The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and these streaming options are supported across all popular streaming platforms.
Battery life
The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro is powered by a 8,850mAh battery. The tablet posted a very good Active Use Rating on our battery life test - 10:12 h. It lasted 50h on a WhatsApp call, 8:33 hours on our web test, it can video stream for over 11h and you can get at least 6h of uninterrupted gaming.
We expected a bit more from the web browser test, but the tablet did ace the streaming test, so it's a nice balance.
Charging speed
The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro supports up to 67W fast charging, and a full charge should take 79 mins. The tablet ships without a charger.

We have completed our battery charging test with Xiaomi's genuine 67W charger, and the results are great.
We captured 32% in 15mins, 53% in 30mins, and 100% in 73 mins.
Note that we've also tried charging the tablet with a 100W PD charger and Xiaomi's 120W power adapter, and we got slower charging times with at least 15-20 mins on top of what we got with the 67W brick.
There is support for smart charging, and you can also limit the charging to 80% if you often keep the tablet plugged on a charger and would like to prevent the subsequent battery degradation.
Speakers - loudness and quality
The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro has four speakers - placed two by two on the shorter sides. They are quite large and support Dolby Atmos.

The speakers scored a Very Good mark on our loudness test. Their quality is somewhat average though with a focus on the high-frequency range, with okay-ish vocals and mediocre bass.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.

It is a bit counter to reality, due to cost, but in practice simple tablets for content consumption should have OLED panels. Not really much of a risk of burn-in whilst watching videos and movies and a better experience. For productivity, IPS (i...

Yes, but even a small (16:9) PC monitor by todays standard, like 27", is much larger - and therefore taller than a tablet and has enough space for many people's productivity needs. Not all, but many. It is a different use case entirely. ...

Yes, and for probably more than 90% of tablet users, a pro tablet isn't for their use in any case. This however, is a pro tablet for productivity use :-) My kids also have tablets for content consumption, normal tablets. Not pro tablets.
