Pick the one that's already unlocked for quite good price and load another.
I usually go with Lineage with microg or similar having support that's big enough, then the phone will last for at least next few years with updates.
Just need to take caution not to mess it up by doing unnecessary things such as rooting or else I may get my device soft bricked.

picked one up for $180 with unlocked bootloader and flashed crdroid. Its blazing fast and battery champ. Gcam works wonders. Its just too big otherwise perfect budget phone

Summer98, 21 Apr 2025Will this phone get hyperOS2.0 update and android 15?It's got A15 but I don't recommend updating because you'll be stuck with the silly ios like "new style" Control Centre, it takes won't allow switching to the sensible android-like "old style". You also get lot less homescreen layout options, I think only two, one is extremely wasteful and other is extremely crowded. 1.0.18 A14 is fine and no need to update.

I overall quite like this phone except for the HyperOS 2 which feels more restrictive than previous verison and of course the lack of microSD card.

pl2rts, 25 Apr 2025I dont think there is a large chance to get hacked but that... moreSorry to disappoint you but given the situatuon, many people including me would take a headphone jack over faster processor and some updates anyday. Poco F5's 7+ gen 2 is still comfortably ahead of vast majority of midrangers out there. While not as fast as F6/X7 pro, the difference isn't noticeable for most people. Software updates are overrated. I don't care about updating unless it's improving something that matters for me. Not to mention that most updates break more things than they fix. Keeping low profile and being aware of privacy and surroundings render security updates meaningless too.
On the other hand, missing the headphone jack is extremely inconvenient, I'm just too used to plugging in the jack and listen straight away, doesn't get quicker, easier, simpler and more convenient than that. And yes, I don't think need a security update to prevent someone hacking via Bluetooth.

I just dont think it's worth it to buy F5 at the moment when the F6 price is around same as F5 and then the price is similar to X7 Pro that is better out of the 2 mentioned.
F5 only good thing is that it have 3.5mm jack and that is it. While F5 new in the box cost same as F6 and X7 Pro while the best option would be to go with X7 Pro out of the 3
F5 to buy 2 years after release is expensive as the price have not drop to 150 euro where it's worth without any updates left on the phone and you buy the phone to install custom android on it.

Real hackers won't target people around by risking themselves being caught, but they are mercenaries using 0-day, gets paid by whom can afford

Nobody is safe in pirate sites too. It's the risk you take on your own. And these criminals aim probably more of the people who dont have a lot of money as they are easier catch to be manipulated. Some people even take loans to send money to random people in the world.

You get attacked only if
1. You are high valued target that the entity is willing to pay millions of $
2. You click on malicious msg, attachment or web link
3. You gave someone physical access to your phone, and the person planted malware on your device.
Otherwise, you won't be able to find anybody around you, who actually get attacked.
I understand that you are misinformed due to online hype tho if you aren't sure about what you are talking about, then you just keep your opinion as personal.

F5 can also do 4k 60fps but with EIS in custom ROMs.

Secondly owning a old phone is a totally different thing then buying an old phone that is in it's end of the OS update support.
I own this Poco F5 and still there is no last OS update for it as the second update.
To be honest i think this Poco F5 might be my last Xiomi phone for the reason of the updates. I got Redmi note 5 Pro 7 years ago for the reason that it was advertised to get more then 2 OS updates but i got European version that come with Android 8.1 and got only 1 OS update to 9 while in India it come with Android 8 and got the 8.1 update and then to 9.
Whit this F5 i got the first Android updated to 14 that was like 2-3 months late and now it seems like android 16 will come out and the F5 dont even get it's second OS update to 15 as there still isn't one.
I say that it's pointless to buy 2 years old Chinese phones for the reason that you wont get any software support and the price wont be like 100 euro for the phone that it be worth to get now.
For example Poco F5 8/256GB in my country still cost 320 euro as a new in the box from shops where you get 2 years warranty but for that money you get already Poco X7 Pro that promises 3 OS updates and was released with Android 15 so it either ends with 17 or 18 and is way more worth it cause it performs way better and have other features that are better then on F5 like better screen that have fingerprint reader under the screen and not like on F5 that is on the side of the phone
It's not about being a geek for updates. It's what you pay for a phone when you buy it new and pay 300 euro plus for it. It's not like you buy used iPhone or Samsung S class that both are something 4-5 years old. And geeks install custom android on the phone so they get updated more then the brand officially will. Updates are not only for geeks as you need security in the modern world as even this site is not in secure environment and your connection can get attacked that cause problems for you.
