Having been disappointed with a Pixel 8 (small screen, so-so speakers, washed out display, so-so performance) i bought an iPhone 16 Pro. I sold it as i miss Android.
My question: Is a Poco F7 Pro good upgrade* over the Pixel 8?
or wait for the Pixel 9a?
Or get an F7 Ultra instead?
* my priorities are specs that are more better (albeit slightly) than the Pixel 8 on cameras, performance, battery life, speakers & audio, etc. I do not like big/tall/wide phones hence i chose these ones.

Gaaan, 03 Apr 2025Yes and no, not everyone can experience every brand in deep... moreI have not experienced lag after owning a couple these cheaper devices.
You need to clean up the device once a while such as by doing resetting or even go further by installing cleaner custom rom (but it won't likely be your option as flagship phone usually won't allow you to install custom rom).
I suppose that if you know what you are doing with your device, a budget phone can be real good.
That being said, everyone will have different experience anyways.

It's a shame there is no e sim in the F7 line up
And there is no wireless charging for the F7 pro

I have owned those big brand before, also owned those clean OS brand. At first, it does feel good, really smooth and no bloat, works as it is despite those are not the cheapest that can be found with almost similar specs. However, no matter how, specs is specs, it get lag quickly if you really floor it with heavy stuff such as game, raw power don't keep up with the price. Also for it's clean OS, there are many UI parts that are not so user friendly, where for some custom UI, the UI is more straightforward than the vanilla one.
It is good and bad, I never hate vanilla UI, but they are near to boring. I prefer custom UI more. I do know can optimize the UI with third party launcher bla bla bla, rooting, use custom ROM.
For me, a POCO F series such as this POCO F7 Pro is what I need.

                        ???
No, if you want a proper experience - before purchasing one, do enough researches and try out as many devices as possible.

This new generation of POCO phones has arrived to disrupt the market. Never before have such powerful features been offered at this price and with complete reliability. I've been using the F6 PRO for almost a year, and with excellent results. I only upgraded to the F7 PRO to upgrade to the Snapdragon processor. I've considered buying the Ultra, but I might do so in the future. In this case, I think the price difference doesn't make up for the performance.

The rest, some might complain the UI is not vanilla, has ads in some of the built in apps. For me, it is just fine, I have the POCO F1 now as backup phone and it is still usable, nothing wrong with it, it just work.

I won't lie, yes the update and os is pretty meh but not bad at all. Nothing will happen if you didn't update at the same second the new update arrives

Other things to speak of regarding of so called flagship killer, there are compromises such as slow OS and security updates, no promise of monthly, bi-monthly, half year or any promised updates, also compromise on features usually included in flagship brand such as eSim support, wireless charging, high fast charging, good camera's, better build quality with glass and metal, good after sales support (though this one is depend on regions). If you really want a proper experience, then just stay with proper flagship from big brand. Those second tier brand such as POCO are for those who don't care or can overlook these compromises but rewarding you with much lower price.

I know many are skeptical to own a POCO due to past bad rap of motherboard or processor soldering issue, the new POCO is no longer has that problem.
The rest, POCO is a global brand of Redmi counter part with POCO also selling the Redmi "flagship" K series on POCO F series, there is no continuation to speak of, or no promise of incremental upgrade to speak of. If you really want something good within certain low budget, you cannot deny how much value POCO can offer.
Yes, I also know there is controversial pricing on EURO and US side where the pricing is marginally much higher compared to Asia region such as Indian pricing, I feel sorry for that.
So, if on EURO region on a similar pricing you get better specs smartphone then go for that, for the rest in Asia if we could get cheaper price on POCO brand then no doubt, it is one of those on the recommended list.
I have been using POCO since the POCO F1 and never has serious issue on it unless I nitpick for more expensive brand that offer more on camera tech such as those from other Chinese brand such as OPPO/Vivo/Oneplus/Realme/Honor.
